Metropolitan Division Preview: Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets are the oddest team of the bunch to join the Philadelphia Flyers and the other former Atlantic Division castoffs in the Metropolitan Division. They’ve had a mostly miserable existence in the Western Conference, getting picked on by teams like the Detroit Red Wings (who are in the NEW Atlantic Division — is this confusing enough for you?) and the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blue Jackets made a nice push for the playoffs last year, but came up a few points short. Oddly enough, they already have some division ties between a couple of major trades with the …

Hockey Hilarity: Hockey Video Game Fans Are Dedicated Too

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! Okay, so this has nothing really to do with the real game of hockey, but the virtual one counts, right? The NHL ’14 demo was released this week and it’s pretty cool. On a related note: I was perusing Twitter and came across this retweet by none other than Sean Ramjagsingh, “Producer – EA Sports NHL series and tweeter of random things not related to my job!” (well that’s according …

Flight Plan: Seven Games Left

The Philadelphia Flyers have seven games remaining in their 2013 season. Yesterday they lost to the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 1-0. They are not technically mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but they will be this week with relative ease. Even if they win out, the Flyers would need all of the teams above them to lose just about every game. Four of the seven games on Philadelphia’s docket are this week against the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers, the New Jersey Devils, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Atlantic Watch: Flyers aren’t out yet, Pens clinch the division, Islanders sit in seventh, Devils endure long losing streak

The Philadelphia Flyers entered this week on a winning streak, but they left it on a losing skid and can now only hope they receive some help to make the postseason. With four of their final nine games coming up in the next week, the Orange and Black will likely find out if they will be heading to the playoffs by April 17th. The Flyers won their third straight game on Wednesday night with a 5-3 comeback decision over the Montreal Canadiens in Philly. Wayne Simmonds tied the game with a little over five minutes left before Erik Gustafsson’s first …

Atlantic Watch: Flyers keep slipping, Penguins keep winning, Rangers and Devils hanging on to playoff spots, Islanders within reach of postseason

The Philadelphia Flyers were the only team in the Atlantic Division not to win a game this week, as they went 0-1-1 against the Pens and Rangers. Things don’t get any easier for the Flyers over the next week, as they take on a division leader and two teams fighting to make the postseason. After a six-day break, the Flyers dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the CONSOL Energy Center on Sunday. Tyler Kennedy, who missed the Pens’ game against the New York Islanders due to being sick, ripped one over Ilya Bryzgalov’s right shoulder with 2:27 left …
