The end of their four-game road trip wasn’t pretty for the Flyers, as their only two points came in a shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. With a pair of shutout losses, the Flyers have now been shut out five times this season. The Flyers hope two games against Eastern Conference teams below them in the standings will help them gain ground in a fight for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. For the first time since the middle of November, the Flyers went a week where they only earned two points as they went 1-2-0 in three road games. Although the Flyers had the help of Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn returning to the line-up, they managed to end the week with a pair of losses as they fell out of the top position in the division. The highlight of the Flyers’ upcoming schedule is The Winter Classic on Monday against the New York Rangers. Stamkos And Garon Lead Lightning In 5-1 Victory Over Flyers

Steven Stamkos had a two-goal night and Mathieu Garon made 31 saves to led the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 5-1 home victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Despite out shooting the Lightning 32-16 and forcing them into 11 icings while Tampa Bay didn’t force them into any, the Flyers leave Tampa Bay after an unfortunate loss they didn’t deserve. Scott Hartnell scored the Flyers’ only goal of the game while Ilya Bryzgalov stopped a mere 11 of the 16 shots he faced as the Flyers lost for the fourth time in their last five games. Hartnell was snakebitten early on, victimized by Garon with a huge save during 5-on-5 …

The Philadelphia Flyers won both ends of a back-to-back situation for the second time this season, beating both the Anaheim Ducks and the Phoenix Coyotes, and now sit just three points away from tying the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom they will face later this week, for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. With all the injuries the Flyers have taken recently, especially to their blue line, it’s great to see them able to soldier on and pick up valuable points on the road. The Philadelphia Flyers have been inconsistent in the early going, but mostly trending up — which is why they are sitting in the fourth overall slot in the Eastern Conference, just three points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the #1 seed. There are good and bad trends with every team and perhaps a little unexpectedly, the good for the Flyers lies in their scoring. Timonen Shootout Goal Gives Flyers Win

Usually called upon for solid defense, Kimmo Timonen won the game tonight for the Flyers netting the winning goal in the shootout against Tampa Bay making the final score 4-3. A two point night from James van Riemsdyk along with goals from Scott Hartnell and Darroll Powe allowed the Flyers to push tonight’s game to extra time. The win was the Flyers’ first of the season against the Lightning, making their record 1-3-0 against the Southeast division foe. The Philadelphia Flyers finally get a win after a long layoff, beating the Carolina Hurricanes after four days off and how do they follow it up after another little layoff?
