Despite earlier reports from multiple sources which seemed to reveal that Matt Carle wanted to remain with the Flyers and wanted to sign here and that the Flyers wanted him, Carle instead pulled a switcheroo on America’s birthday. The powers of persuasion from Tampa Bay general manager Steve Yzerman were too great, and Carle was signed to a six-year contract. Multiple media reports, including NHL.com, revealed the deal is worth a total of $33.5 million for the duration, with an average annual value of $5.5 million. It was a sad day in the Greenblatt household when the Flyers traded James van Riemsdyk. For one, JvR was my guy. Also, my brother had just purchased a JvR Winter Classic jersey (for the record, he has a penchant of purchasing jerseys and finding said player traded or released within two years of the purchase). Caveat: It would take a lot to get Shea Weber out of Nashville as the Predators will do everything in their power to keep him. In a pivotal Game 4, the Philadelphia Flyers showed signs of frustration and were out shot 43-22 in a 4-2 loss to the Devils at the Prudential Center tonight. Dainius Zubrus registered a two-goal night, while Petr Sykora and Marek Zidlicky both had a goal and an assist in New Jersey’s third straight win in the series.
