The Philadelphia Flyers entered this week on a winning streak, but they left it on a losing skid and can now only hope they receive some help to make the postseason. With four of their final nine games coming up in the next week, the Orange and Black will likely find out if they will be heading to the playoffs by April 17th. The Flyers won their third straight game on Wednesday night with a 5-3 comeback decision over the Montreal Canadiens in Philly. Flight Plan: Playoffs Still Within Reach

The Philadelphia Flyers took a four game win streak, their first of the season, into Winnipeg yesterday. They scored the first goal and, after a few shaky minutes at the beginning of the first period, completely took over registering 13 shots in the primary stanza, limiting the Jets to just four through 20 minutes of play. Winnipeg roared out of the gates in the second and notched four goals on just 12 shots, while Philadelphia could only muster five all period. I’m not taking the bait. I don’t want to. It is not happening. I refuse! I love my Flyers, but I will not begin to now believe that this team is hitting their stride and will make the playoffs. No way, no how! I said it two weeks ago: a loss to the Penguins and Rangers and the season was done. Finished. Caput! What did the Flyers do? Lost in overtime to the Penguins and got dismantled by the Rangers, so not exactly out of it then. The Flyers followed that Rangers loss with a shootout loss to the Islanders!??! …

Prior to curating your opinions last week, I ran down a list of the players that the Flyers should keep heading into next season. This week, I will take a different approach, stating not what should happen but what may actually happen. Throughout yesterday’s trade deadline, the team remained relatively quiet, surfacing only to claim Adam Hall off of waivers to fill Max Talbot’s spot and to swap backup goalies. Michael Leighton made his Adirondack season debut Sunday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center with a 25-save performance, only to see the rest of his Phantoms teammates fall short in a loss to the Albany Devils by a score of 3-2. The Philadelphia Flyers were a busy organization on Friday. First, they announced the signings of free agent winger Brandon Alderson and goaltender Anthony Stolarz to entry-level contracts. In 59 games played with the Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League, Alderson has totaled 25 goals 32 assists for 57 points. The Oakville, Ontario native is listed as 6-foot-5, and 212 pounds and brings much needed size to the winger position in typical North American Flyer fashion.
