CBA Chatter

Everything you wanted to know about the CBA but were afraid to ask Here are your updates from the past week on the ongoing collective bargaining agreement talks from around the Web. Lockout. It’s a dirty word to me, like “strike”, “New York Rangers”, and “country music”. We,the fans, always lose during any labor disagreement between the owners and the players. We can only hope that both sides suck it up, meet in the middle and get a deal done. As of this writing, there are no plans on the two sides meeting, but hopefully this weekend someone will reach out and …

A Shortened NHL Season? Hmm…

While reading a list of reasons why the NHL lockout might not be so bad (I think it was a joke; at least, I hope it was a joke), I came across something interesting – the mention that while fans are upset about the complete loss of NHL hockey, they might be happy that there would be less games if the league were to end the lockout before the entire season was lost. This idea is new to me. I’ve never once thought that the hockey season was too long. I always want more, more, more! But after posing the …

Inevitable

So, pretty much, we’re going to have a lockout. I don’t keep up with all the chatter about it, but I was half-praying for a miracle when the first inklings of that horrible word started getting tossed around. Lockout. It’ll be my first. Lucky me. It’s hard not to be pissed off about it and to whom exactly do you aim your ire? The players? The owners? Gary Bettman? (I always have ire for him). Not that it does any good. The fact that there have been two previous lockouts does nothing to ease the rage. I’m so glad there …

Sucker

We’re just about 37 hours away from having to face a bummer of a reality — no hockey, at least not anytime soon. It’s been a summer of waiting, hoping, praying that the NHLPA and the league would reach a new CBA and the season would start on time, but it’s not happening. There should be training camp going on now, preseason games that get the fans hyped up for the real deal. But, nope. The players are home, or they’re in NHLPA meetings, and when the fans turn on the TV to catch a game, they’ll only be met …
