Homer’s Do’s and Doh’s: Our favorite and least favorite deals under Paul Holmgren

Paul Holmgren became the interim General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers on October 22, 2006. That interim title was removed only weeks later on November 11. Holmgren was able to take a team that finished last in the National Hockey League, and rebuild it to make a deep run all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals the very next season. Yes, some of Holmgren’s moves have been amazing, but he’s also a guy who has gotten this organization into some hot water with the salary cap and was forced to make deals that were head scratchers to say the …

A Video Diary: G being G

I miss hockey. I know it can be found all around me, but I miss it in its most elite form, embraced by the casual independent and celebrated on televisions and in various media formats across the globe. Instead, the hockey as I know it is being played elsewhere around the world in miniscule bits, with no one to enjoy it but the 5,000 to 7,000 people that can fit into the arenas and the other serious few who are brave enough to seek it elsewhere, quality of the stream and play be damned. Hockey Hilarity: Stanley Swag

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players and media personnel. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! His name was Steve Yzerman. He was one of the greatest players in …

Hockey Hilarity: Banned Beards

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players and media personnel. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! A little over a week ago, Claude Giroux sent out a tweet that he and Scott Hartnell would be growing beards during the lockout, presumably until the ban on National Hockey League hockey is lifted. This just further reaffirms the notion that hockey players will grow beards at any given point in time for any reason at all, and it’s awesome. Here’s what usually, but currently not, professional NHL players Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, Mike Richards, …

NHL HOF: Sakic, Sundin in; Roenick, Lindros out

Joe Sakic and Mats Sundin will join the ranks of the illustrious, named two of the four new inductees into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Joining the first-time candidates in the 2012 class are Pavel Bure and Adam Oates. The announcement was made Tuesday and the induction ceremony will take place November 12 in Toronto. Sakic was one of the few players who spent his entire career with one franchise. The 13-time All-Star was a first-round draft pick of the Quebec Nordiques back in 1987, eight years before they moved to Colorado and became the Avalanche. After 20 seasons, Sakic …
