Welcome to this week’s edition of 3-on -3, where we look back at the week that was for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers are coming off a disappointing week in which they were 1-2-1 in four games and were only able to get three out of a possible eight points. Let’s get to this week’s 3 “hot” and 3 “not” players. 3”Hot”: Wayne Simmonds: The former second-round pick of the LA Kings had a good week lighting the lamp, scoring 4 goals in four games and setting a new career high in the process with 17 goals on the year. …

Despite a win in their first game of the week, the Phantoms lost their second game to drop their record to 2-7-0 in their last nine games. Flyers’ Monster Third Period Too Little, Too Late In 6-4 Loss To NJ
Thanks to a huge third period, the Flyers turned a six-goal deficit after two periods into a 6-4 loss at home to the New Jersey Devils this afternoon. Alexei Ponikarovsky recorded his 300th NHL point with an assist in the first period before he put home the game-winner less than two minutes into the second period for his second two-point game as a Devil. Atlantic Watch: 1/25-1/31
In their only game this week, the Flyers took part in yet another shootout. Unfortunately for Philly, it was unable to pull out a win. The Orange and Black did, however, keep up with the Rangers, who also lost in a shootout this week. The Flyers look forward to a difficult week ahead, as three of their four opponents are currently in the playoff picture. For a third time this season, the Flyers lost to the Winnipeg Jets. This time, however, the game was very defensive, as the Jets picked up a 2-1 shootout win in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Chris …
Point/Counterpoint: Was the booing of the Rangers alumni justified or in bad taste?
We’re proud to release the latest installment of Flyers’ Faithful’s “Point/Counterpoint” series. This week, Jim and I discuss whether it was OK or not to boo the New York Rangers alumni team on New Year’s Eve. Jim starts us off with his justification: Point: Some of us saw it live and participated. Some saw it on TV. Some only heard about it but almost everyone has an opinion about it. It occurred during the Winter Classic weekend, at what was arguably the better ticket of the event, the Alumni Game. You could not wipe the smile from my face as I …

Let’s get to it: 3 “Stars of the first half”: Claude Giroux: No surprise, the Flyers’ leading scorer and all-around offensive dynamo is in the top spot. “G” leads all Flyers with 55 points, which also happens to rank second-best in the NHL, and his 37 …

Over their five-game losing streak, the Phantoms have been out scored 20-7, as the team has suffered two four-goal losses. The Phantoms hope the AHL’s All-Star break will end their misery as of late, as they have a three-game home stand over the next several days. For their third straight loss, the Phantoms dropped a 5-1 decision at the Verizon Wireless Arena to the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings’ AHL affiliate) on Wednesday night. Jordan Nolan posted the game-winner 11:31 into the middle stanza …
Atlantic Watch: 1/18-1/24
The Flyers went 2-1-1 in a week that featured a lot of ups and downs for the guys in Orange and Black. After a week that featured a loss to the Islanders, a Scott Hartnell record a natural hat trick, and their first shootout win of the season, the Flyers are still trailing the Rangers for the top spot in the division. With one game this week, the Flyers look to gain ground in the division as well as beat a team they have already lost to twice this season. The Flyers started the week off with a 4-1 loss to …
Minor League Update: 1/15-1/22
The Adirondack Phantoms could only notch one win this week despite taking part in four contests, as they went 1-1-0 at home and 0-2-0 on the road. The one win and three losses this week moved the Phantoms to 4-5-0 for the month of January, while they are two points out of first place in the Northeast Division with a game in hand on the division leading Connecticut Whale (New York Rangers’ AHL affiliate). Adirondack hopes to gain possession of first place in the division following their upcoming three-game week, as they finish January by taking on the Albany Devils (New Jersey …
