Jagr Fever

On July 1, 2011, the Flyers announced that they had signed former enemy of the state, Jaromir Jagr, to a one-year contract. Still fresh off of the shock, anger, and disappointment of the Mike Richards and Jeff Carter trades, I couldn’t bring myself to think of what that signing could do for the team. What could a 39-year-old who hadn’t played in the NHL for three years really bring to the table? As far as I was concerned, it was a pointless move, just like the ones they’d made only eight days prior. Jagr, Schmagr. All right, he racked up …

A dominant win over the New York Islanders and a pair of comebacks helped the Flyers gain five crucial points in the standings this week, as Philly still has a slim chance to win the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, the only game in which the Flyers didn’t earn a point may have been their most impressive performance, as they posted 23 more shots than the Panthers in their one-goal game loss last night. Three games against three clubs that are lower in the conference standings should help the Flyers a lot over the next couple days, as the Orange and Black hope to clinch a …

Atlantic Watch: 2/29-3/6

For the first time in awhile, the Flyers put together a string of wins this week, as they won all three of their contests. Ilya Bryzgalov played a big part in the team’s success, as he won all three games with a save percentage of .948. With a four-game schedule ahead for the next seven days, hopefully Bryzgalov can keep Philly’s winning ways intact against some strong opponents. In their first game of the week, the Flyers beat the visiting New York Islanders by a score of 6-3. It looked like Bryzgalov was back to his usual ways, as Josh …

Around the Net for 3.06.12

Welcome to Around the Net, where we take a look at the Philadelphia Flyers and the NHL on and off the ice. This week we look at a Bryz shutout, possible playoff opponents and our own Flyers Faithful trivia night. Bryz shuts the door: Ilya Bryzgalov recorded his third shutout of the season on Sunday night, leading the Flyers to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals. It was a milestone victory for the franchise, the first by that score against the Caps since they entered the league in 1974. Bryz has been playing better of late and his …
