Bruise or Bust: Filling the Forwards Pt. 2

Last time, we looked at some of the guys on the Flyers roster that might be vying for the 12th and final spot within the forward group. With half of the list already complete, it’s time to complete the list and breakdown who might have the upper hand. Zac Rinaldo: 66 NHL GP, 9 pts, 232 PIM, 22 yrs old, 5-11 / 169 lbs Rinaldo spent most of his rookie season with the Flyers, accumulating 232 penalty minutes in the process – just 3 shy of the league lead, despite averaging the third fewest time on ice per game amongst …

A Shortened NHL Season? Hmm…

While reading a list of reasons why the NHL lockout might not be so bad (I think it was a joke; at least, I hope it was a joke), I came across something interesting – the mention that while fans are upset about the complete loss of NHL hockey, they might be happy that there would be less games if the league were to end the lockout before the entire season was lost. NHL 13: My Quick Review

WHOA! That is my initial reaction. EA Sports’ latest installment of the NHL video game series was released on Tuesday, September 11. And, like I said, whoa. This game is ridiculous. Not only are the graphics improved and  the game play different, but this may be the only time I can see Claude Giroux in a Flyers jersey playing on ice — albeit in video game pixels. For the average gamer like myself, the subtle differences are not a big deal. EA Sports made a big deal discussing their new skating options. To me, whatever. I just want to play. …

Lockedupations

You know those polls at sporting events that they put up on the jumbotron where they ask the athletes what they’d do if they weren’t an athlete? We all laugh with glee at the thought of alternate universe Bernie Parent hosting a variety show or Dan Carcillo as a high school janitor. With a lockout looming on the horizon, Kim and Steve have speculated what the current Flyers will end up doing with no hockey to play. Scott Hartnell & Kimmo Timonen: Fighting crime as The Orange Hartnell and Kimmo When Scott Hartnell decides to take the law into his …

Point/Counterpoint: To match or not to match?

Welcome to another edition of Point/Counterpoint, where a pair of Flyers Faithful scribes square off, debating an issue with their own unique style and flair. This week, Nick D and Bob H “discuss” whether or not the Flyers should sign their big name future restricted free agents. At the end of the 2013-14 season, the Philadelphia Flyers have a couple big restricted free agents due for new deals. Those RFAs are Sean Couturier, Claude Giroux, and Brayden Schenn. Assuming that the rules of the current CBA change, but still allow for offer sheets, and that the salary cap floors and ceilings will …
