Pipe Down, Dan Carcillo

Blackhawks’ Carcillo still living in the past

This past weekend, the Chicago Blackhawks held their annual Convention, a weekend-long event that gives fans an opportunity to interact with players, coaches, and alumni about two months before the hockey preseason begins. Different panels featuring those affiliated with the team are hosted, and fans are able to participate, both in person and interactively via Twitter and the team’s Facebook page. Why is this of any interest to Flyers fans, you might ask? Well, our old friend Dan Carcillo — currently with the Blackhawks — had some choice words for his former team. When speaking of the 2010 Stanley Cup …

Then and Now: Mika Pyorala

Mika Pyorala was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers in June of 2009. Even though the Finn never played a game in the NHL, the Flyers believed Pyorala proved himself enough in the SM-liiga and Elitserien to earn a shot in North America. With a cap hit of $500,000 for the 2009-2010 season, Pekka Rinne’s brother-in-law posted pretty decent numbers for the Flyers and the Phantoms. In his 36 games with the Orange and Black, Pyorala had two goals and two assists. His first goal as a Flyer was important, as he potted one in a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings on November …

My Flyers wish list

It was a sad day in the Greenblatt household when the Flyers traded James van Riemsdyk. For one, JvR was my guy. Also, my brother had just purchased a JvR Winter Classic jersey (for the record, he has a penchant of purchasing jerseys and finding said player traded or released within two years of the purchase). But it was more than just the loss of that once-promising Jersey native that made my household sad; it was knowing the uber-talented van Riemsdyk will become a top-six forward for another team. It was knowing that another young player signed to a long-term …

Devils outwork Flyers, Even Series With 4-1 Win

In Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series, the Philadelphia Flyers mysteriously showed little to no desire to win tonight’s affair, and the New Jersey Devils muscled their way to a 4-1 road victory. David Clarkson scored his first of the 2012 playoffs with 8:43 left in regulation to give the Devils a 2-1 edge. New Jersey’s #23 found Zach Parise alone in the slot, but couldn’t beat Ilya Bryzgalov due to a poke check from the Flyers’ goaltender. After Bryzgalov broke up the play, Clarkson gained control of the disc at the bottom of the circle and beat Philly’s …
