3 on 3 for the week of 12.11.2011

Welcome to this week’s 3-on-3, where we look back on the week that was for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers won all three games last week to gain 6 points and take over the overall lead in the Eastern Conference from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Let’s look at this week’s 3 “hot” and 3 “not”:  3 ”hot”: Claude Giroux: “G” has continued his stellar play and has taken over the scoring lead in the NHL with 39 points, 3 points ahead of Toronto’s Phil Kessel. Flight Plan 12.11.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers have now won five games in a row and are sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with 39 points and 101 goals scored, being the first team in the NHL to reach 100 goals this season. Peter Laviolette’s club has overcome a lot of criticism and adversity through these first 28 games to get to this point, but they may have to push forward without two more of their best players in Claude Giroux and Ilya Bryzgalov. Giroux is currently leading the NHL in scoring with 39 points, three points ahead of resurgent Toronto Maple Leafs winger …

Flight Plan 12.04.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers won both ends of a back-to-back situation for the second time this season, beating both the Anaheim Ducks and the Phoenix Coyotes, and now sit just three points away from tying the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom they will face later this week, for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. With all the injuries the Flyers have taken recently, especially to their blue line, it’s great to see them able to soldier on and pick up valuable points on the road. Claude Giroux scored a goal last night, adding his 15th goal and 32nd point on the year, …

Let’s see who were this week’s “hot” and “not” Flyers: 3 “Hot”: Matt Read – The young rookie from Bemidji State University continues to position himself as a rookie of the year candidate. He scored 5 goals and added an assist in 4 …

Flight Plan Week of 11.20.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers were on a pretty good run, collecting points in eight straight games. That streak dated all the way back to October 27 when they played the Winnipeg Jets in a wild game where 17 goals were scored and the Flyers ended up losing 9-8. As fate would have it, their most recent loss in regulation would also come at the hands of the Jets, by a score of 6-4 on Saturday. For some reason, Peter Laviolette cannot win games against either the Jets or the Atlanta Thrashers, doing so only once in his tenure as the head …
