Oh My Hockey!

I cannot believe I’m posting. I don’t think the good people here at Flyers Faithful can believe I’m posting. I was beginning to believe that my posting regularity on here would be like the season — non-existent. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday and spent time with family. Finding out the lockout was over was an early b-day present for me and hilarious because my father had taken it upon himself to get me several Flyers-themed presents for Christmas this year. I was glad, of course, but a little sad because well, stupid ::insert any foul word here:: lockout. Then …

Flyers announce 2012-2013 roster

With only 24 hours until the puck drops on the 2012-2013 season, the Philadelphia Flyers have announced their roster. The biggest surprise comes in the form of 18 year old first round draft pick Scott Laughton who will begin the year with the big club. The modified contract slide rules for this shortened season will allow him to play five games before “burning” a year on his entry-level contract. Whether or not he will stay beyond those five games is unknown. However, when faced with the same situation last season, Sean Couturier ended up staying with the team all season. …

Estebombs: Flyers Flight Night

Talkin’ ‘bout practice I went to the Flyers open practice on Thursday and it was an odd experience. 15,000+ people showed up at the Wells Fargo Center for PRACTICE (not a game). I’m not sure what I expected going in, perhaps Scott Hartnell’s version of Cirque du Soleil? A magic show from Jody Shelley? But no, it was actually just cut and dry practice. Shooting drills, odd man rushes, all of that jazz. Per Captain Claude himself: “It’s a little weird, they’re kind of there and you’re waiting for an answer from a teammate or something and you’ve got to …

Trenton Update: 1/11-1/17

The Trenton Titans’ losing streak reached seven games before they pulled off an overtime winner on Wednesday morning against the Reading Royals. The Titans will be in New York tonight before they travel home to host a pair of games against the leaders of the North Division. Trenton started the week with a 3-1 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays in New Jersey on Friday. Both the Saturday and Sunday games …

Hockey Hilarity: Congratulations from the Chief

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players and media personnel. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! Well if you hadn’t read it everywhere, or hadn’t seen it on television, or heard about it on the radio, or random people on the street didn’t inform you, or your entire social media stream somehow missed it, Claude Giroux was named the captain of your Philadelphia Flyers earlier this week. There were about a million different tweets about it, most were positive, some were negative, a few were funny and this is …

Taking Stock: Defense & Goaltending

Over the past few seasons, the hallmark of the Philadelphia Flyers has been their offense. Notorious for their ability to accumulate and develop high-end offensive talent via the draft, the team has been able to consistently find success based on its robust offensive presence. Yet for all the attention the offense (rightfully) receives, the defense was never truly all that far behind, anchored most recently by the big body of Chris Pronger and the puck-moving prowess of Matt Carle. Now those two stalwarts are gone, paving the way for a new class of defenders to take the reigns on the …

Atlantic Watch: Season Preview

After a painful 3 1/2 months, the NHL will finally return to action this weekend. That being said, the schedule is much shorter, which makes every game that much more important. If you want to make the playoffs, you most likely won’t be able to afford any losing streak of severe length. Since no games have taken place yet, let’s take a look at the Flyers’ schedule for the next week and recent news related to the team, as well as what the rest of the division has done lately. For the Flyers, several stories have occurred this week that …
