Looking at some Matt Read contract comparables, Homer deserves further praise

After what has already been, arguably, Paul Holmgren’s most impressive offseason to date he went and re-signed Matt Read to a bargain of a four year contract on Friday. At four years and only $3.625 million on the cap, my initial reaction was elation at the cap number. Matt Read Signs 4-Year Extension

In a move to try and keep the team’s young core together for the foreseeable future, the Flyers signed Matt Read Friday night to a 4-year contract extension, worth $14.5 million. After being signed out of Bemidji State University, Read posted a rookie-high 24 goals and 23 assists in 79 games for the Flyers in 2012-2013. During last year’s lockout-shortened season, Read posted a respectable 11 goals and 13 assists, although playing much of the year hurt after tearing muscles in his rib area. However, Read was one …

Frequent Flyer Miles: Hedberg released by Rangers, Nodl released from NLA club, Hlavac to Kladno

As the beginning of the NHL season nears, several former Philadelphia Flyers, draft picks of the team, and former members of the organization were involved in transactions this week. The biggest news might be the New York Rangers releasing Johan Hedberg, who was with the team on a Professional Try-Out. Hedberg, who was selected 218th overall by the Flyers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, has spent the last three seasons with the New Jersey Devils. Two former Flyers were involved in moves this week, as Andreas Nodl was released by his NLA team and Jan Hlavac will join HC …
