Voracek’s Hat Trick Puts Flyers Past Penguins in Pittsburgh

The Philadelphia Flyers edged out a 6-5 win at the CONSOL Energy Center tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a ridiculous contest between the Atlantic Division opponents. Jakub Voracek recorded a hat trick and Wayne Simmonds had a three-point night, as well as a Gordie Howe hat trick, in a wild one-goal win on the road. Ilya Bryzgalov had 27 saves and Tomas Vokoun registered 26 saves, as the pair struggled in the 32 shots they saw apiece. The Gagarin Cup Playoffs: KHL Postseason Starts Today

The KHL playoffs start today, as 16 of the league’s 26 clubs compete for the Gagarin Cup. Since the NHL and KHL are huge competitors, it’s interesting to look at the players on the current KHL playoff teams to see just how many are former Philadelphia Flyers or NHLers. On top of that, some clubs’ prospects are in the 16-team field. Draft Eligibles: Is Darnell Nurse (OHL), Donovan McNabb’s nephew, the next Chris Pronger?

One player who has climbed up the draft boards this season is Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenseman Darnell Nurse. Nurse is currently ranked 10th overall by ISS in its January rankings and is listed as the number one OHL defenseman draft prospect, and number two overall OHL player behind Ottawa 67’s forward Sean Monahan.
