Uni Watch: Flyers Have 5th Best Duds in the NHL

The nifty ESPN blog Uni Watch has been putting out power rankings for the four major sports all week, and today was NHL day. The Flyers came in 5th for the best unis in the league, according to Paul Lukas, noting that they have the best look of any non-original 6 team. I myself am a big fan of the Flyers’ current look and am really glad they went back to a classic style. Frequent Flyer Miles: Leighton to the KHL, Fritsch will play in Italy, Amorosa commits to Providence College

The biggest news of the week, in terms of where former Philadelphia Flyers went, is Michael Leighton signing in the KHL. The former Flyer did not play a single game as a Columbus Blue Jacket in 2013, as he has joined Donbass Donetsk for the 2013-2014 campaign. Leighton didn’t play a single game for the Flyers in 2011-2012 and only appeared in one game during the 2013 shortened season. He took part in 14 of Philly’s 23 games during the 2010 postseason run, as he posted a 2.46 GAA and a .916 save percentage. The Chicago Blackhawks’ draft pick will …

Then and Now: Luca Sbisa

Whether you love his moves or hate his moves, you can’t deny Paul Holmgren is willing to make a bold trade when he feels his team needs it. One of those trades came in the summer of 2009, when Holmgren was able to grab Chris Pronger from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for several pieces. One of those pieces was a young blue liner by the name of Luca Sbisa. Sbisa was drafted 19th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, as he was taken right before Michael Del Zotto and three picks before Jordan Eberle. …
