The Philadelphia Flyers had their dreams of acquiring Shea Weber crushed yesterday, as the Nashville Predators matched Philly’s offer sheet to keep the elite defenseman in Tennessee. One reason why this is so painful to the Flyers’ faithful is due to the fact that Matt Carle signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning earlier in the month. Carle spent parts of four seasons with the Orange and Black thanks to Philly’s trade with the Lightning back in 2008, where the Flyers acquired the blue liner in exchange for Steve Downie, a fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft (drafting Alex Hutchings), and Steve Eminger. …

The Philadelphia Flyers tried to add one of the best defensemen in the NHL to the roster by signing restricted free agent Shea Weber to a 14 year, $110 million offer sheet. Their hopes were dashed on Tuesday when the Nashville Predators announced their decision to match the Flyers’ offer. The Predators had until 11:30 pm Wednesday to match the Flyers’ offer. If they had decided against it, they would have received four first-round draft picks as compensation. It was speculated that, had they not elected to match, they could have arranged a trade with the Flyers using those draft …

This past weekend, the Chicago Blackhawks held their annual Convention, a weekend-long event that gives fans an opportunity to interact with players, coaches, and alumni about two months before the hockey preseason begins. Different panels featuring those affiliated with the team are hosted, and fans are able to participate, both in person and interactively via Twitter and the team’s Facebook page.
