I was sort of at a loss for what to write this week. I’m waiting on a particular book to arrive at my local Barnes and Noble (and that’ll take awhile to read) and this week has been lack of Flyers hockey, so there wasn’t a whole lot of inspiration to be found. I asked my Flyers BFF, Pam, if she had any ideas. She tossed a couple my way including all the fuss about the Tampa Bay Lightning trap and I read quite a few articles on why the trap is what it is and how it makes for …

Connolly Scores In OT To Give Lightning 2-1 Win
On a night where Chris Pronger and the Flyers’ defense attempted to throw the Lightning off their game, it was Tampa Bay who had the last laugh as they beat Philly, 2-1, in overtime. Marc-Andre Bergeron tied the game in the middle of the third period setting up Brett Connolly’s game-winner exactly halfway through OT. Dwayne Roloson had 14 saves tonight in the win, while Ilya Bryzgalov posted 22 saves in a what turned out to be a game played like a stalemate between two warring generals. Pronger returned after an absence of just over 2 weeks, and in the first period, he …
Coburn gets multi-year extension
The Flyers announced this morning that they have given defenseman Braydon Coburn a multi-year contract extension. It has been reported that a league source revealed the pact to be worth $18 million over four seasons. The average annual cap hit will be $4.5 million per year for the duration — an increase of $1.3 mil from his previous extension. In his fifth season with the organization, Coburn has totaled three assists in 14 games with 19 PIM and a plus-one rating. A former first-round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2003 draft, the 26-year-old Calgary native has totaled 26 …
Atlantic Watch: 11/2-11/8
The Flyers may have absolutely clobbered the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night, and the Flyers may have only been a shootout goal or two away from going 3-0-0 this week, but these three games weren’t the best Flyers team we’ve seen all season. Before their Saturday night massacre against the worst team in the league, the Flyers may have played 125 minutes as well as participate in a shootout in their first two games, but they really only showed up for a total of about 20 minutes. Inability to play a full 60 minutes was a problem last year’s Flyers …
3 on 3 for the week of 11.06.11
Welcome to 3-on-3, where we take a look back at the best and worst Flyers of the last week, statistically speaking. The Flyers had a good week, going 2-0-1 and gaining 5 out of a 6 possible points with a tough road victory against the Sabres, a disappointing shootout loss to the rival Devils, and a complete manhandling of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Here are this week’s 3 “hot” and 3 “duds:” “Hot” players: Sean Couturier — The 18-year-old from the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL continues his strong two way play in his rookie season. “Couts” as he is …
Flight Plan Week of 11.06.2011
The Philadelphia Flyers have been inconsistent in the early going, but mostly trending up — which is why they are sitting in the fourth overall slot in the Eastern Conference, just three points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the #1 seed. There are good and bad trends with every team and perhaps a little unexpectedly, the good for the Flyers lies in their scoring. As of right now, after only 14 games, the Flyers have managed to pot 56 goals which is tops in the league. In fact, they’re the only team in the NHL to have scored at least …
Flyers Shred Blue Jackets 9-2
What a doozy! In Jeff Carter’s return to Philadelphia… Er, anyway, even Carter couldn’t have helped his new team survive the Flyers’ 9-2 thrashing of Columbus last night. The game, which the home team controlled from the start, was a real crowd pleaser. It featured a little bit of everything and a whole lotta scoring. The Flyers started off the first period fast, scoring two within the first 3 1/2 minutes, and worked up a staggering 5-0 advantage before it was all over. Among these were a pretty power play goal by Jaromir Jagr, a great dexterous goal by Max Talbot and a goal from the blue …

Devils Edge Out Flyers 4-3 In Shootout
The Flyers were able to hang on to a 3-2 lead late in Wednesday’s game despite playing poorly, but tonight was a different story against the New Jersey Devils. Giving up the tying-goal with just 6:35 left in regulation, the Flyers let a point slip away to New Jersey as they lost to their division rival tonight 4-3 in a shootout at the Wells Fargo Center. Adam Henrique had a goal and an assist for the Devils, while Johan Hedberg posted 20 saves in regulation as well as a save in the shootout. This was the first time the Flyers reached …
