While it didn’t leave a bad taste in the mouth like Saturday night’s third-period collapse in Philadelphia, the result wasn’t any more satisfying. Blake Wheeler netted the decider in the third round of the shootout, as the Atlanta Thrashers took a 4-3 decision over the Philadelphia Flyers at Philips Arena on Thursday night. Rob Schremp tallied to start the second round, but it was Wheeler’s odd score which eventually ended the contest after a Danny Briere miss. Wheeler skated in from an angle just to the right of center ice, then lost control of the puck as he neared the crease. …

It’s difficult to believe the Flyers had a rough week when they obtained five out of the possible six points this week, but an injury to Chris Pronger has caused some concern inside the Philly locker room. Tuesday Pronger had surgery to insert a small screw into his right hand to help repair a fracture. The surgery will sideline the big man for three to four weeks, which coincidentally will be around the beginning of the playoffs. Needing to find ways to win without the veteran blue liner, Philly went 2-0-1 in their first three games without Pronger. If it …
Carter’s Pair Carry Flyers To 3-2 Win Over Florida
For the second time in eight days, a pair of goals from Jeff Carter gave the Flyers the boost they needed to win as a trip to Florida resulted in a 3-2 win over the Panthers. Carter’s pair within an eleven minute span in the second period along with a first period goal from Scott Hartnell gave the Flyers a win after a terrible loss on Saturday. The Flyers’ win improves their record to 43-19-7. The Flyers didn’t start the game as they planned as the Panthers had a very strong first shift. However, the Flyers did produce the …
Pronger to have hand surgery on Tuesday
Courtesy of the Philadelphia Flyers The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that D Chris Pronger will undergo surgery on Tuesday, March 15 to repair a fracture in his right hand, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. “Chris had a CT scan on his right hand on Sunday and a small fracture was discovered,” Holmgren said. “Our doctors believe surgery is the best route to take with the injury. Surgery will be done Tuesday morning in Cleveland by Dr. Tom Graham. Chris will be able to return to play in 3-4 weeks.” Pronger has appeared in 50 games for the Flyers this …
Flight Plan Week of 03.13.2011
Ever hear that saying, “take one step forward and two steps back”? How about “two steps forward and one step back… off a cliff”? That’s what the Philadelphia Flyers did as you would think that last Sunday was rock bottom for the guys in Orange and Black when they took a 7-0 beating at the hands of the New York Rangers, but no. The Flyers were able to take any and all progress they had made in their previous two games against the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs and not only squander it, but revert back to a …
Leino’s Trick Thrashed By Major Collapse
Four Atlanta goals, including two in the final three minutes, helped the Flyers choke away a huge lead in the third period and led them to eventually lose 5-4 in overtime. Ron Hainsey’s extra-session goal turned a happy night for the Flyers’ faithful, who witnessed Ville Leino’s first career hat trick, into an upsetting one as their home team blew a 3-0 lead entering the final twenty minutes. Sergei Bobrovsky was nineteen minutes away from his first shutout of the season before allowing five goals in just over a 20-minute span. Despite being sorely outplayed in the beginning of the …
Flyers Beat Desperate Leafs 3-2
Visiting a desperate Toronto team, the Flyers were able to beat the Maple Leafs 3-2 tonight. Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist helping the Flyers win their second straight game after dropping four straight. The win improves the Flyers’ record to 42-19-6. A flaw of the Flyers game as a whole is the powerplay. Last game against Edmonton, a Jeff Carter tally was the only goal registered on a five minute advantage during the opening period. Tonight, Mike Komisarek received a, what some might call a questionable, five minute major for boarding Daniel Carcillo just before the four minute mark in the …

Every team in every sport goes through a rough patch. This week, the Flyers endured their first rough stretch of the season. Having only had a three game losing streak back in October, the Flyers had yet to really endure a losing streak similar to their recent four game slide. Prior to their win against Edmonton last night, the Flyers had lost in Ottawa before losing back-to-back home games against the Maple Leafs and Sabres capping off the whole thing by being blown out by the Rangers in New York on Sunday. In the past week, the Flyers lost three of the four games in …
Carter Nets Two As Flyers End Skid
Recognizing the chance to turn things around with a break in their schedule, the Flyers had a dominating start ultimately leading to their 3-1 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Jeff Carter scored twice while Danny Briere had a goal and an assist as Philly embarrassed the Oilers in the opening period keeping them to a single shot. The win ends a four game losing streak and improves Philly’s record to 41-19-6. Looking to take the early lead, the Flyers were briefly halted when Chris Pronger went to the box for hooking. For the minute and thirty-seven seconds the Flyers were …
