Hartnell plays “Beat the Clock,” Flyers shame Penguins in OT

Wonders never cease. On the ropes and down 2-0 to a steamroller of a Pittsburgh Penguins club looking for their 12th straight win, the Philadelphia Flyers put together one of the most unlikely turnarounds in recent memory and took a 3-2 home decision on Sunday afternoon. Scott Hartnell was the hero, as his second goal of the game, coming with 0.9 seconds left in overtime, proved to be the winner. It came as a result of a defensive breakdown. Danny Briere entered the Penguins’ zone near the boards on the left wing, then turned into the middle. He allowed Braydon …

Bruins regain form, top Flyers in shootout

It’s fitting that two teams near the top of the Eastern Conference standings who have struggled mightily in afternoon starts couldn’t resolve their differences in 65 minutes of actual play. So it was the Boston Bruins who emerged victorious on Saturday afternoon at TD Garden by a 3-2 count, though not due to the luck of the Irish. Rather, it had to do with Ilya Bryzgalov returning to his catatonic act in the shootout, failing to stop any of the three Bruins shooters. Tim Thomas only came up one save better, denying Danny Briere at the right post to end …

Ron Genest: Hockey Art With Heart

Ron Genest may not be a household name. You won’t see his artwork hanging in museums, and you won’t find it for sale in art galleries. Hockey was a way of life in Massena, a town close to the border with Canada and the province of Ontario, and with that region’s cold …

Atlantic Watch: 2/29-3/6

For the first time in awhile, the Flyers put together a string of wins this week, as they won all three of their contests. Ilya Bryzgalov played a big part in the team’s success, as he won all three games with a save percentage of .948. With a four-game schedule ahead for the next seven days, hopefully Bryzgalov can keep Philly’s winning ways intact against some strong opponents. In their first game of the week, the Flyers beat the visiting New York Islanders by a score of 6-3. It looked like Bryzgalov was back to his usual ways, as Josh …
