On an evening where the Flyers’ organization retired Mark Howe’s number, Bryzgalov and Philly’s penalty kill showed up to give the Flyers’ their second straight one-goal game victory. “He’s been great for us the last month,” said Claude Giroux of Bryzgalov. “When he plays great, it’s motivation for us to step up and play great.” Giroux had a goal and an assist in the win, as he created scoring chances throughout the game. Bryz and D Blank Caps 1-0 In Washington

Ilya Bryzgalov had his strongest performance of the season tonight, as he stopped 34 saves to help the Flyers beat the Washington Capitals 1-0 at the Verizon Center. The game-winning goal, which came at the 7:51 mark of the second period, was a redirection from Wellwood in the slot off of a pass from Pavel Kubina at the point. Read, who ended a 12-game goal drought, had a pair of crucial tallies tonight. “It was a little struggle there for the last month,” Read said. “I just know I’ve got to work hard, keep working hard and things are going to start going my way. Horrible Second Period Leads To Flyers’ 2-0 Loss In Edmonton

A horrendous middle stanza and a strong performance from Devan Dubnyk helped the Edmonton Oilers beat the visiting Flyers by a score of 2-0 tonight. Taylor Hall’s power-play goal only minutes into the second period was enough for an Edmonton victory, as the Flyers ran into a second straight amazing goalie performance from an unexpected source. In the first and third periods, the Flyers outshot the Oilers 29-15. In the second period, however, the Oilers earned a 15-6 shot advantage and potted the game’s only goals. The Flyers had a strong start and a strong finish, but there inexplicable lull …

Point/Counterpoint: Trade deadline moves

Point: Tweak the roster By Steve J The Flyers miss the hell out of Chris Pronger.  You know it, I know it, Trent Klatt knows it.  The trade rumors that have circulated for the past couple of months have revolved around the defense.  Ryan Suter, Shea Weber, Tim Gleason, and Luke Schenn’s names have been floated as potential candidates.  The cost for most of these guys would be at least one young forward, which happens to be the Flyers’ greatest asset.  Well, in the words of the immortal sage Admiral Ackbar, it’s a trap! It is absolutely not worth it …

Atlantic Watch: 1/25-1/31

In their only game this week, the Flyers took part in yet another shootout. Unfortunately for Philly, it was unable to pull out a win. The Orange and Black did, however, keep up with the Rangers, who also lost in a shootout this week. The Flyers look forward to a difficult week ahead, as three of their four opponents are currently in the playoff picture. For a third time this season, the Flyers lost to the Winnipeg Jets. This time, however, the game was very defensive, as the Jets picked up a 2-1 shootout win in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Chris …

Flyers Go To Third Straight Shootout, Lose 2-1 To Jets

After two high-scoring affairs earlier in the season, the Flyers lost 2-1 in a shootout to the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, as both teams buckled down for a more defensive game this time around. Chris Thorburn tallied and Ondrej Pavelec made 27 saves during regulation for the win, as the Jets ended their three-game losing streak. Brayden Schenn registered the Flyers’ only goal tonight, as he put home his fourth of the season late in the …

1. Laud Bob, learn from Bob When Dmitry Chesnokov interviewed Sergei Bobrovsky for Puck Daddy this offseason, he asked him about Ilya Bryzgalov’s contract. “What I understood from last season is that if you play well, show the result, then you play for the first team,” said Bobrovsky. “If not, you are benched. A contract is not playing, a person is.” Bobrovsky put his head down, kept quiet, and played hard. The presence of Bryzgalov did not intimidate him. That alone speaks volumes about just how much the young goalie matured from the previous postseason. While Bob may not get …
