Hockey Hilarity: Ovechkin Unplugged

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! So maybe you’re watching the NHL Playoffs, maybe you’re not. Sometimes players score pretty goals. This was the case here as Derek Stepan of the New York Rangers potted a beauty against the Washington Capitals: Unfortunately on this play, Washington captain Alex Ovechkin was real lazy in “playing defense” and while he’s been pretty stellar over the second half of the season and decent in this series, this was pretty …

Poll: Who do you want to win the Stanley Cup?

With the Flyers opting (yes…opting…that was it) not to participate in this year’s playoffs, and after a great first night of playoff hockey last night, there are a lot of great storylines. Do you root for a team out West? A former Flyer? An underdog? Who do you want to win the Stanley Cup this year?

Flight Plan: Struggles Continue

This was a good week to see how the Philadelphia Flyers stack up against some of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference. The results however, were not good. The Flyers, now losers of three straight, will look to find any kind of way to get back on track and win some games going forward of they will be golfing in May instead of playing Stanley Cup Playoff hockey. Later today the Flyers will host the Buffalo Sabres, then have a home and home against the New Jersey Devils. You can get tickets for those games here: http://www.tiqiq.com/nhl/philadelphia-flyers-tickets/?publisherid=1260333 Where normally …

cry

What to do when your team is done:

1. Pick a new team to watch for the remainder of the playoffs. 2. Cry 3. Reassure yourself that it’s a rebuilding year and they did damn well to get as far as they did. 4. Cry 5. Remind yourself that they beat their rivals. 6. Cry 7. Whine about the referees all through the playoffs. 8. Cry 9. Take a deep breath and pray the offseason isn’t as traumatic as the last one. 10. Buy some tissues. It’s okay to cry a little.

Jeff Carter

Flyers West Update: Carter Comes Alive

Before the Kings traded Jack Johnson and a conditional first-round pick to the Blue Jackets back in February, they were the lowest goal-scoring team in the league. They needed a proven scorer, and they also needed someone who could provide depth. Enter Jeff Carter, apparently now the jewel in the crown. Despite Carter’s impressive regular season numbers — he led the Flyers in goals his last three seasons with the team and has had four 25-plus goal seasons in the NHL — his playoff performance has always been questioned.
