Flight Plan: Home After the Holidays

Last week, the Philadelphia Flyers won three of their four games. Their wins came against the Vancouver Canucks via the shootout, the Calgary Flames, and the Phoenix Coyotes. The lone loss came against the Colorado Avalanche in a game where the puck just wouldn’t go for them and Semyon Varlamov was marvelous. That being said, the second line has started to click a little bit with Brayden Schenn scoring five points in his last four games, Wayne Simmonds garnering four points in his last four games, and Scott Hartnell quietly netting six points in his last five games. The Flyers started the week with a 4-3 shootout loss to the New York Islanders in Philly on Thursday. Josh Bailey beat Ilya Bryzgalov on the …

Teddy Purcell deposited the game-winner halfway through the third period, while Steven Stamkos recorded his 200th goal in the NHL in a two-point effort. Max Talbot and Claude Giroux were the only Flyers to beat Anders Lindback, as Tampa Bay’s goaltender made 28 stops for the victory. With the tilt tied at two midway through the third period, Purcell tipped home his sixth of 2013 to hand the Lightning two points tonight in Tampa Bay. Stamkos managed to grab a …

The Gagarin Cup Playoffs: KHL Postseason Starts Today

The KHL playoffs start today, as 16 of the league’s 26 clubs compete for the Gagarin Cup. Since the NHL and KHL are huge competitors, it’s interesting to look at the players on the current KHL playoff teams to see just how many are former Philadelphia Flyers or NHLers. On top of that, some clubs’ prospects are in the 16-team field. It’s also worth noting some of the teams that received help from current NHL players who played a good chunk of the season with a certain KHL season before the lockout concluded. With that being said, here are the previews …
