Voracek’s Hat Trick Puts Flyers Past Penguins in Pittsburgh

The Philadelphia Flyers edged out a 6-5 win at the CONSOL Energy Center tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a ridiculous contest between the Atlantic Division opponents. Jakub Voracek recorded a hat trick and Wayne Simmonds had a three-point night, as well as a Gordie Howe hat trick, in a wild one-goal win on the road. Ilya Bryzgalov had 27 saves and Tomas Vokoun registered 26 saves, as the pair struggled in the 32 shots they saw apiece. Paul Martin had a three-assist evening, while Evgeni Malkin and James Neal each had a goal and an assist in the emotional defeat. …

Although the Philadelphia Flyers lost two of their three games this week, the Orange and Black finished the week with a resounding 7-0 victory over a divisional opponent. Philly will look to gain ground in the Eastern Conference this week with four games over the next seven days, one of which is against the Pittsburgh Penguins and another two against a pair of the teams at the bottom of the standings. Claude Giroux backed up his words after the loss on Saturday, as he led the Philadelphia Flyers to an emphatic 7-0 win against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum on Monday afternoon. The captain, who ripped his teammates for their effort in the wake of listless back-to-back road losses at New Jersey and Montreal, posted two goals and an assist, while he also set the tone early with hustle and physicality. The Philadelphia Flyers have just one win through four games of a six game road trip. To say that the Flyers aren’t very good on the road is an understatement at this point, as they have the worst record in the NHL away from home at 2-8-0. They’ve also been away more than any team in the Eastern Conference, so there is some comfort in that at least, that they will eventually get even this schedule out with some games within the familiar confines of the Wells Fargo Center. Clarkson Caps Off Devils’ Comeback, Flyers Lose 5-3 in Jersey

The Philadelphia Flyers learned tonight that it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, as they blew a two-goal lead to lose 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils tonight on the road. David Clarkson provided the game-winner for the hosts halfway through the third period, as the Devils scored four unanswered goals to win for the fifth time in their last six games. Ilya Kovalchuk recorded three assists, while Patrik Elias had a goal and two assists in the win. The Philadelphia Flyers were able to extend their point streak to four games this week, as they earned a shootout loss to the Florida Panthers and an overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Although they were dominated in Toronto, the Orange and Black did a good job of rebounding to earn their second road win of the year last night in Winnipeg. The Flyers continue their road trip with three of their six games away from the Wells Fargo Center coming in the next seven days. Second Period Hurts Flyers, Lose 5-2 in Toronto

The Philadelphia Flyers’ troubles away from the Wells Fargo Center continued tonight, as they were pummeled by the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 at the Air Canada Centre. Matt Frattin had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, while Cody Franson and Nazem Kadri each had two assists in front of their home crowd. Colton Orr had the game-winning goal and James van Riemsdyk scored against his former team, as James Reimer earned the victory despite leaving the game early in the second period due to an injury.
