Rinaldo hurt, McGinn called up

As if it weren’t bad enough the Flyers fell to 0-2 with a 5-2 loss at Buffalo on Sunday, forward Zac Rinaldo will be out of the lineup for at least one week after suffering a 20-stitch gash on his right leg. The feisty winger left the game in the first period and did not return after taking the worst of a collision with Sabres defenseman Robyn Regehr. “It was a weird feeling. I looked at my pad, and the sock was cut. It was like an X-acto knife cut it. I saw that and I was pissed off it …

Pens Ruin Flyers’ Opener, Beat Philly 3-1

The Philadelphia Flyers had a strong final 40 minutes, but unfortunately the first 20 cost them, as they lost their first game of the 2013 season 3-1 to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. James Neal had what turned out to be the game-winner just 7:20 into the contest, while Marc-Andre Fleury kept 27 of the 28 shots the Flyers threw at him out of the net. Hartsy picked the Cheetos out of his beard and swept her into his arms. Bryz said something unintelligible about world commerce and the effect penguins had on it …

Future Flyers Report: 11/26

Of the 30 skaters mentioned on the list below, 15 have suited up for at least one game with the Adirondack Phantoms and six have suited up for at least one game with the Trenton Titans. Both squads aren’t at the top of the league for scoring. The Phantoms have been held to two goals or less in 10 of their 17 games this season, while the Titans have scored the third-fewest number of goals in the ECHL this year with 39 tallies in 16 contests. In Adirondack, the club has lit the lamp 44 times. The trio of Brayden Schenn, …

Answering reader mail, even when there isn’t any

I’ll let you in on a little media secret. Every time a writer uses a column to answer mail, or even better, “clean out the mailbag,” it usually means they just don’t have a strong enough premise to carry a whole piece. Or they just ran out of time. I cop to both those this week. With the Phantoms having played only four games, two of them in the far reaches of St. John’s, Newfoundland, there isn’t a whole lot of new material to cover. So please forgive me for me turning to the old writer’s crutch of answering reader …
