Simmonds’ three-point night helps Flyers win ninth straight at home

The Philadelphia Flyers extended their home winning streak to nine games tonight, as they beat a shorthanded Minnesota Wild club by the score of 4-1. Wayne Simmonds had two goals and an assist in the win, while Jakub Voracek produced two assists and Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist for the Orange and Black. Only Mikael Granlund beat Steve Mason in the win, as the Flyers’ netminder denied 26 shots. Scott Hartnell also notched his 500th career point in the NHL. Flight Plan: One at Home, Six On The Road

The Philadelphia Flyers ended up with five of a possible eight points last week in two home-and-home sets with new divisional rivals the Washington Capitals and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Flyers scored a total of 17 goals last week, and scored north of two goals in all four contests. Flight Plan: Wheels Up

In this writer’s opinion, the Philadelphia Flyers blew it last week. The team had three games which they should have won, one of which they could have grabbed a point in, and garnered just four points to their names and worse, they scored just seven goals in the process. To come out the way they did against the lowly Florida Panthers, is just unacceptable. To need overtime and the shootout to win a game against the Nashville Predators is similarly unacceptable. This team is far too reliant on Ray Emery and Steve Mason to keep games within reach. They can’t …
