We now find ourselves on the cusp of new NHL and AHL seasons. The Flyers look to bounce back to their normal playoff-worthy hockey, while the Phantoms look to just win some games for a change. Frequent Flyer Miles: Manning to stay in Philly, Zherdev on the move again, Picard to Austria

The biggest news in terms of current and past Philadelphia Flyers is the signing of Brandon Manning to a one-year deal. The blue liner has appeared in 10 games for the Orange and Black over the last two seasons, as well as 111 games for the Adirondack Phantoms. He has two assists and a plus-5 rating in the NHL and 12 goals with 28 assists, as well as 216 PIMs, in the AHL. Manning will come with a cap hit of $675,000 next season. Phantoms 2013-14 schedule released

The final season in the five-year run of the Phantoms in Glens Falls will begin on Saturday, October 12, when the Flyers’ primary minor-league affiliate take on the once-again re-named Hartford Wolf Pack at the Civic Center. That’s the first home contest of a 76-game schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 campaign which begins in earnest at Giant Center in Hershey one week prior. The home opener will be the back end of a home-and-home with the former Connecticut Whale, which commences in the capital city on the 11th. Frequent Flyer Miles: Leighton to the KHL, Fritsch will play in Italy, Amorosa commits to Providence College

The biggest news of the week, in terms of where former Philadelphia Flyers went, is Michael Leighton signing in the KHL. The former Flyer did not play a single game as a Columbus Blue Jacket in 2013, as he has joined Donbass Donetsk for the 2013-2014 campaign. Leighton didn’t play a single game for the Flyers in 2011-2012 and only appeared in one game during the 2013 shortened season. He took part in 14 of Philly’s 23 games during the 2010 postseason run, as he posted a 2.46 GAA and a .916 save percentage. The Chicago Blackhawks’ draft pick will …
