Schenn interview

2013 Year in Review: Brayden Schenn

When a team trades their captain, it is inevitable that a lot of pressure will be placed on the players that come back in return. Brayden Schenn has yet to play a full season in the National Hockey League, but it’s hard to believe it based on how high expectations are on the young forward to contribute. Starting last season with injuries before finally getting a chance to stick with the club, this lockout-shortened year was his first opportunity to play an NHL season from start to finish. Though he may have fallen short of becoming a reliable secondary scoring …

Then and Now: R.J. Umberger

R.J. Umberger may have been born in Pittsburgh, but some of his best memories so far in the NHL have come with the franchise located on the other side of the state. Although his first NHL game came with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2005-06 season, Umberger was a member of two other NHL organizations before he made his way to Philly. The skater was picked 16th overall in the 2001 NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks, as he was the first American forward to be selected. Mike Komisarek was the first American picked by the Montreal Canadiens with the …

The Phantoms goaltending situation for next season might have become a little clearer on Sunday, as the organization added heralded goaltender Carsen Chubak to an American Hockey League deal. As a junior, the 24-year-old backstop helped guide his program to an NCAA Tournament berth — a loss to North Dakota — but finished tied for first in all of D-I with six shutouts, along with a 1.91 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and 23-7-5 record. He was one of 10 original finalists for the Hobey Baker, but was left out of the final three. In three seasons with the Purple …

According to a letter submitted by Adirondack Phantoms VP Chris Porreca to the Mayor of Glens Falls, New York, the club will remain in place for the 2013-14 season. The Post Star was first with the official word on Friday evening. That means, for a fifth and final campaign, the Flyers will have their American Hockey League affiliate playing in the Glens Falls Civic Center. While putting an end to the speculation about whether or not minor-league hockey will have a home there next season, there is a note of bittersweetness knowing the Phantoms will be departing for the Lehigh …

Then and Now: Randy Jones

Randy Jones joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ organization for the 2003-2004 campaign. Jones played in just five games with the Flyers during the 2003-2004 season, as he failed to record a point and was plus-1 in his stretch with the Orange and Black. He suited up in five games from March 6th to March 27th, as Philly went 2-3-0 when …
