When a team trades their captain, it is inevitable that a lot of pressure will be placed on the players that come back in return. R.J. Umberger may have been born in Pittsburgh, but some of his best memories so far in the NHL have come with the franchise located on the other side of the state. Although his first NHL game came with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2005-06 season, Umberger was a member of two other NHL organizations before he made his way to Philly. After spending parts of six seasons in the SM-liiga, Ville Leino became a member of the Detroit Red Wings’ organization for the 2008-2009 campaign. The forward spent time with the Tampereen Ilves, HPK, and Jokerit before he spent most of his first season with the Wings’ franchise in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Leino saw regular season and postseason action for both the Griffins and Red Wings during 2008-2009, as he posted 46 points in 57 games with Grand Rapids and nine points in 13 tilts with Detroit. The Phantoms goaltending situation for next season might have become a little clearer on Sunday, as the organization added heralded goaltender Carsen Chubak to an American Hockey League deal. As a junior, the 24-year-old backstop helped guide his program to an NCAA Tournament berth — a loss to North Dakota — but finished tied for first in all of D-I with six shutouts, along with a 1.91 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and 23-7-5 record. According to a letter submitted by Adirondack Phantoms VP Chris Porreca to the Mayor of Glens Falls, New York, the club will remain in place for the 2013-14 season. The Post Star was first with the official word on Friday evening. That means, for a fifth and final campaign, the Flyers will have their American Hockey League affiliate playing in the Glens Falls Civic Center. Randy Jones joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ organization for the 2003-2004 campaign. After he totaled 53 points in 68 games with Clarkson University over the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons, Jones participated in a combined 60 games with the Flyers and the Philadelphia Phantoms in the season before the lost year of 2004-2005. Another pair of Philadelphia Flyers’ prospects made their NHL debut this week, as both Matthew Konan and Jason Akeson appeared in contests for the Orange and Black. Konan made his debut in the Flyers’ 2-1 win on Thursday against the New York Islanders at the Wells Fargo Center. He had two hits and a blocked shot in 13:09 of ice time. In Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators, both Konan and Akeson suited up for the Flyers. On Thursday afternoon, U.S.A. Hockey announced the names of the first 15 players that will be on the roster for 2013 Men’s National Team at the World Championships, which will be held between two sites, Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden, between May 3-19. Among those chosen are that of current Adirondack Phantoms goalie Cal Heeter and former Flyers defenseman Matt Carle. Trenton Titans to cease operations in 2013-2014

As first reported by Mike Ashmore of The Trentonian on Monday night, then confirmed via release on Tuesday afternoon, the Trenton Titans will be ceasing operations for the 2013-2014 season. After five seasons as the Trenton Devils, the team reverted back to their original name of the Trenton Titans for the 2011-12 season and once again became the ECHL affiliate for the Philadelphia Flyers.
