Flyers Send Down Raffl, Lauridsen to Phantoms

Photo courtesy of Philly.com The battle for the third line wing spot is a little clearer today, as the Flyers announced they sent LW Michael Raffl and D Oliver Lauridsen down to the Adirondack Phantoms ahead of tonight’s preseason finale versus the Washington Capitals. Raffl, who had been battling with Scott Laughton and Chris VandeVelde for the team’s vacant spot on the third line, was held without a goal in four preseason games for the club. Lauridsen, the big defenseman from Denmark, played in three preseason games with the the Flyers after a short stint with the team last season. …

In what’s been the busiest week in terms of movement since the beginning of the Frequent Flyer Miles column, a laundry list of former Philadelphia Flyers and draft picks, Adirondack Phantoms, and Trenton Titans changed clubs, signed extensions, or were involved in rumors. A handful of former Flyers were involved in transactions, as Brian Boucher, Vinny Prospal, David Laliberte, and Nikolay Zherdev found themselves on the move. Three More Assigned to Phantoms Camp

(Photo courtesy of the Philadelphia Flyers) The Flyers announced that three players have cleared waivers and were assisted to the American Hockey League Phantoms, where training camp is scheduled to begin Monday. The three players were forwards Ben Holmstrom and Kris Newbury, and goaltender Yann Danis. Defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon also cleared waivers, but instead of heading to Adirondack, is expected to be placed on long-term injury reserve as he tries to battle back from nagging concussion issues. Frequent Flyer Miles: Hedberg released by Rangers, Nodl released from NLA club, Hlavac to Kladno

As the beginning of the NHL season nears, several former Philadelphia Flyers, draft picks of the team, and former members of the organization were involved in transactions this week. The biggest news might be the New York Rangers releasing Johan Hedberg, who was with the team on a Professional Try-Out. Hedberg, who was selected 218th overall by the Flyers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, has spent the last three seasons with the New Jersey Devils.
