Flight Plan Week of 03.20.2011
The Philadelphia Flyers haven’t looked all that good recently, but they haven’t looked all that bad either. In their last five games, they’ve been able to muster up just enough effort and offense to get points in six of their last seven games and have even squeezed five out of a possible six in their last three contests. The big shootout win in Dallas was a little bit overshadowed by their inability to cap a comeback against the Atlanta Thrashers with a win in OT which saw Danny Briere score two goals including one with just 1:28 left in the …
Flyers Beat Caps In Overtime
It took a little longer than expected, but the Philadelphia Flyers extended their winning streak to three games tonight with a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against the Washington Capitals. Jeff Carter would score early, Claude Giroux would score late in the second, and Andrej Meszaros tallied in overtime to get the win for Philly. Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves on the night and register his second win on the year against the Caps. Just hours after seeing general manager Paul Holmgren’s contract extended for another three seasons, the Orange and Black became the first team in the NHL to reach the …
The morning after: Flyers @ Capitals 11.20.10
“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game. Coming off two losses, both of which had a lack of defensive play, the Flyers needed to not only win this game, but play a better defensive game against a very high-scoring and deeply talented Washington Capitals team. Brian Boucher got the start in this game, giving Sergei Bobrovsky a much-deserved rest, and some fans angina. The Flyers were thoroughly outplayed in the first period. At the end of the period, it should have been at least …
Flight Plan Week of 11.14.2010
Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. The Flyers are playing a similar brand to the type of hockey they were playing when they started the Stanley Cup Playoffs last year. They worked hard, scored key goals, got contributions from different players every night. They rolled with that style right on through to the Stanley Cup Finals and came within just two victories of ending a 35 year drought. The entire team was firing on all cylinders last year and right now, …
Flight Plan week of 11.07.2010
Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. Two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Flyers had not won two games in a row and had been playing sound in maybe one or two areas of their game. Other than the Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell, and Ville Leino line, nothing seemed to click on a nightly basis for this team and something just seemed off. Now the Flyers have not only won two straight, but are in the midst of a six-game winning streak. The …
