The Flyers scored seven goals in the final 40 minutes to overcome an early two-goal deficit, as Philly trampled the visiting Buffalo Sabres 7-2 tonight. Claude Giroux dished out a career-high five assists, while Scott Hartnell had a goal and three assists in the Flyers’ third win over the Sabres this season. Both Wayne Simmonds and Max Talbot potted a pair of goals in the win, as the Flyers turned in their highest-scoring game since their 9-2 beating of the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 5. The Flyers went 1-1-0 in their two games this past week – losing the much anticipated Winter Classic on Monday afternoon to the New York Rangers. Due to Ilya Bryzgalov’s recent struggles in net, Sergei Bobrovsky earned both starts this week stopping 54 of the 59 shots he faced. Jaromir Jagr saluted the crowd after his second-period goal, while Max Talbot provided the empty-netter as the Flyers walked into the CONSOL Energy Center on Thursday night and strolled out with a 4-2 win. Matt Read put home his 12th of the season late in the second period for the game-winner as Sergei Bobrovsky grabbed the victory with 24 saves. Jordan Staal and Tyler Kennedy scored for the Pens while Marc-Andre Fleury had 19 saves in the Pens’ second loss in December to the Flyers. The Philadelphia Flyers went 3-1-0 this past week, losing to the lowly New Jersey Devils as they did not get up for the game from the get go because the Devils are statistically the worst team in hockey right now, but have been playing better under Jacques Lemaire.
