Then and Now: Jaroslav Modry

During the 2008 playoffs, the Philadelphia Flyers pulled off a pair of upsets before ultimately falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals. Eight different defenseman suited up for the Orange and Black during their unexpected run. Aside from Ryan Parent, who only took part in four postseason games in 2008, Jaroslav Modry played in the fewest number of playoff games with nine appearances. Since that playoff run, Modry has been a member of two different clubs in the Czech Extraliga. In February of 2008, the Flyers made a pair of trades that made an immediate impact on …

Giroux Leads Flyers’ Drubbing Of Sabres In Eventful Game

The Flyers scored seven goals in the final 40 minutes to overcome an early two-goal deficit, as Philly trampled the visiting Buffalo Sabres 7-2 tonight. Claude Giroux dished out a career-high five assists, while Scott Hartnell had a goal and three assists in the Flyers’ third win over the Sabres this season. Both Wayne Simmonds and Max Talbot potted a pair of goals in the win, as the Flyers turned in their highest-scoring game since their 9-2 beating of the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 5. Simmonds missed the beginning of the game due to an injury he suffered in warm-ups. After …

Atlantic Watch: 12/28-1/3

The Flyers went 1-1-0 in their two games this past week – losing the much anticipated Winter Classic on Monday afternoon to the New York Rangers. Due to Ilya Bryzgalov’s recent struggles in net, Sergei Bobrovsky earned both starts this week stopping 54 of the 59 shots he faced. Philly, which has dropped five of their last seven games, looks to turn things around this week against the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators. The Orange and Black continued their dominance over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the CONSOL Energy Center with a 4-2 victory on Thursday night. Matt Read earned his third …

Matt Read put home his 12th of the season late in the second period for the game-winner as Sergei Bobrovsky grabbed the victory with 24 saves. Jordan Staal and Tyler Kennedy scored for the Pens while Marc-Andre Fleury had 19 saves in the Pens’ second loss in December to the Flyers. To start the game, Staal needed only 44 seconds before he put home a goal to give the Pens an early 1-0 lead. …

Flight Plan week of 01.23.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers went 3-1-0 this past week, losing to the lowly New Jersey Devils as they did not get up for the game from the get go because the Devils are statistically the worst team in hockey right now, but have been playing better under Jacques Lemaire. The Flyers should have picked up a point at least in every game, but it looks like they were probably looking ahead to today’s matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks in what will be the only meeting between the two 2010 Stanley Cup Finalists. The Flyers will then play the Montreal Canadiens on …
