The Los Angeles Kings have had a remarkable run so far in these playoffs. They’ve knocked off the top three seeded teams in the West and have earned a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals. They’ve won all eight games on the road during the playoffs, and went 12-2 overall. And they did it all as a team. The Flyers may have absolutely clobbered the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night, and the Flyers may have only been a shootout goal or two away from going 3-0-0 this week, but these three games weren’t the best Flyers team we’ve seen all season. Before their Saturday night massacre against the worst team in the league, the Flyers may have played 125 minutes as well as participate in a shootout in their first two games, but they really only showed up for a total of about 20 minutes. The Flyers learned the hard way on Sunday afternoon that more chances don’t always lead to more goals as the Kings beat the Flyers 1-0, behind 40 saves from Jonathan Quick. Drew Doughty had the only goal of the game scoring before the twenty-second mark of the second period. Consistent. If you’re a Philadelphia Flyers fan, over the past four years, you have never seen that word associated with the team you love. “Up and down” or “streaky” or “just plain bad” at times “unbelievably good” at times, but never were any of the teams over the past four years “consistent”. ‘Tis the season for road trips as the Flyers head out west on their annual post-Christmas visit to the other conference and try to regain the top spot in the NHL after losing it to Pittsburgh as they remained idle during the Penguins’ last two games.
