Will an Atlantic Division team win the Stanley Cup this season?

Nina G: I think the Penguins are the only one strong enough to win it if healthy, but since they are not I do not see the Cup coming from the Atlantic in 2012. Bob H: An Atlantic Division team certainly has the juice to win the Stanley Cup, because the East for whatever reason has been a “crapshoot” for as long as anybody can remember. Whoever goes up for the prize will have to contend with Boston and to a lesser extent, Washington in the East, but will have a greater challenge from Detroit or whoever else rises up in …

Which team poses the biggest threat for the Flyers this season?

Nina G: I think the Devils, Rangers, and Penguins will all be a threat as I see the division being wide open between them and the Flyers. Bob H: Since we’ve seen that the Cup search has taken a back seat for this year, I only realistically foresee that the Flyers biggest threat will be either themselves or injuries. Pavialax: If healthy, the Penguins’ depth matches well against the Flyers and they pose the biggest threat. Nick D: The team that poses the biggest threat in the Atlantic Division this year is the New York Rangers. Adding Brad Richards is a huge …

What player in the division will have the biggest breakout season? Which will have the most disappointing season?

Nina G: Breakout: John Tavares. Most Disappointing: Ilya Bryzgalov. Bob H: Breakout King: Zach Parise, F, New Jersey or James Neal, F, Pittsburgh Fizzle: Martin Brodeur, G, New Jersey or Ryan Callahan, F, New York Kim Q: I think James Neal could have a career year and on the other end of the spectrum, I think Brad Richards will disappoint and will not do quite as well as he should. Nick D: The player who will have the biggest breakout season for their respective teams will be either be John Tavares of the New York Islanders or James van Riemsdyk …

Who will be the best player in the Atlantic Division?

Nina G: If Crosby plays most of the season I would say Crosby. If he misses a large portion I’ll go with Zach Parise. Bob H: Sidney Crosby, F, Pittsburgh (in absentia) or Chris Pronger, D, Philadelphia. Kim Q: Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Nick D: Since there are so many of them, it’s a tough question to answer as to who will be the best player in the Atlantic Division. Even if you divided this question up into three parts as to the best forward, defenseman and goalie or five parts by adding all three forward positions, this would still …

How did the offseason affect the balance of power in the Atlantic Division? Where will each team finish?

Nina G: I am not sure the offseason will greatly affect the balance of power in the Atlantic Division. I think injuries will be the biggest factor as it was a fairly quiet offseason for most of the division. The Flyers took the biggest hit this offseason with their moves, but Pronger’s ability to fully recover from his surgeries will also play a role in their potential success. I think they will take a bit of a step backwards this year. The Rangers made the biggest offseason splash with the signing of Brad Richards. The addition of Richards in place …
