Minor League Update: 12/18-12/24

The Phantoms continued to struggle in the month of December, losing both of their games this week to drop to 3-5-1 since the beginning of the month. With their first win being a 5-1 victory against the Norfolk Admirals (the Tampa Bay Lightning’s AHL affiliate) to conclude their four-game winning streak as they entered the month, the Phantoms’ last two victories have been one-goal victories. In the middle of a six-day break, the Phantoms look forward to three home games this week to bring in 2012. Atlantic Watch: 12/14-12/20

The last two games for the Flyers haven’t been pretty, but there is good news related to the team’s point-leader. Claude Giroux is expected to make a return in the near future, the earliest being tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars, from his concussion. This is good news considering the status of Chris Pronger, who will not take part in another game at any point this season or for the playoffs. With his team going 2-2-0 in his absence, Giroux’s return will hopefully turn things around for the Orange and Black. As for Philly’s games this week, the Flyers extended their winning …

The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects. Nick Cousins had a big week in juniors with 6 points over 3 games (2 g, 4 a) to push himself back into the top 20 scorers in the OHL. Brendan Ranford recorded a point in each game to finish with 2 goals and 2 assists in 4 games. Defenders Ricard Blidstrand and Colin Suellentrop each picked up an assist on the week. The Adirondack Phantoms lost their first game of the week before winning last night to make their record 3-3-1 in the month of December. Since their four-game winning streak was snapped at the beginning of the month, the Phantoms two wins in their last six games have both been one-goal victories. With Christmas taking place next weekend, the Phantoms play today and Wednesday while not playing on Saturday for only the second time all season. The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects. Brendan Ranford was the top scoring Flyers prospect once again this week. He kicked off the week with a pair of goals and ended the week with a pair of assists on Sunday. Nick Cousins assisted on a goal in each of his two games.
