Penn State falters versus Minnesota; Set to face the Spartans this weekend

If you’ve been reading my coverage of Penn State hockey all season long then you probably know I haven’t been that impressed with this team. Granted, it’s going to take a few year’s of recruiting classes to become a power in college hockey and nobody thought they would be successful right away. The one thing I kept wanting to see out of Gadowsky’s squad  was a full 60 minute effort night in and night out. Despite dropping both games to the No.1 Golden Gophers this past Sunday and Monday, I finally saw Penn State compete for a full 60 minutes. …

Penn State Welcomes No.1 Minnesota to Happy Valley

It’s been well-documented that year two for Penn State as a Division I hockey program hasn’t gone according to plan. The Nittany Lions have struggled mightily this season as they’re 4-10-1 overall and sit last in the Big Ten Conference. It’s safe to say it’s been a disappointment thus far given the talent on the roster. Penn State is coming off of a 8-2 thumping at the hands of Boston College two weeks ago at the Three Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh. It doesn’t get any easier for Guy Gadowsky and his squad as the Lions’ are set to host No. …

Gostisbehere shines as Union sweeps Penn State; PSU opens up Big Ten play this weekend in Madison

Daniel Ciampini’s goal with three seconds remaining in last Sunday’s contest proved to be the difference as No.11 Union College defeated Penn State, 5-4, to complete the weekend sweep. For Penn State, their loss on Sunday was their toughest one to date because the Nittany Lions held a 4-1 lead at one point in the game. Guy Gadowsky’s squad had their best opening period of the season as freshmen Zach Saar netted his first goal of his collegiate career only 3:58 into the game. Luke Juha extended Penn State’s lead to 2-0 just over five minutes later. In the second …

Penn State edges Sacred Heart; Set to face a tough UMass-Lowell squad

Ricky DeRosa’s and Luke Juha’s first period goals proved to be the difference as Penn State narrowly escaped with a 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart last Friday. With the win Penn State improved to 3-3-1 on the season. Juha, who hails from Mississauga, Ontario, tallied his third power play goal of the season and extended his point streak to three games. DeRosa and Tommy Olczyk also extended their point streaks to three games last Friday. The Lions went 1-7 on the power play, while Sacred Heart went 1-8 with the man advantage. Matt Skoff continued his impressive play as he …

Penn State gets back into the win column; Prepare for Sacred Heart Friday

The Penn State Nittany Lions snapped their four-game losing streak Friday with a 5-4 victory over the Robert Morris Colonials. This game is just what the doctored ordered for the Nittany Lions. It was not their best game of season by far, but any win is sufficient for Guy Gadowsky and his players. Penn State still took way too many penalties as they committed eight penalties for a total of 24 minutes. However, Robert Morris showed no discipline and Penn State burned them for three power play goals, including a goal by Casey Bailey who finally got his first marker of …
