Flyers Give Second Strong Effort in a Row, Win 5-2 over Boston

With a little help from an unexpected source, the Philadelphia Flyers won 5-2 over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, their second strong effort in a row — despite being out of playoff contention. Oliver Lauridsen scored his first NHL goal 11:31 into the second period, with some help from Boston’s Zdeno Chara. Lauridsen dumped the puck into the Bruins’ end, where Chara attempted to throw it back around the boards. Unfortunately for Boston, the puck rolled into the crease, hit goaltender Anton Khudobin’s stick, and went into the net. Steve Mason looked terrific between the pipes, coming up with …

Some years just do not go your way. This was the case for the 2013 Philadelphia Flyers. In a shortened year, the team couldn’t quite get their bearings early on, took a ton of injuries to key personnel, and never gained any footing as they struggled nearly the entire year to string together a winning streak or to meet the .500 mark. Simmonds’ hat trick powers Flyers past Hurricanes in Carolina

The Philadelphia Flyers were able to post a win in their first game since knowing they were eliminated from playoff contention, as they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 on the road tonight. Wayne Simmonds recorded his first career hat trick and added on an assist, while Matt Read had a goal and two assists in the win. Steve Mason earned the decision in the high-scoring affair, as he denied 26 of the Hurricanes’ 29 shots on net. Oliver Lauridsen experienced a sample size of professional hockey with the Adirondack Phantoms in the 2010-2011 season before spending the entire 2011-2012 campaign with the club. Due to several of the Philadelphia Flyers’ defensemen being out of action because of injuries, Lauridsen got his first taste of the NHL this weekend. At 6″6′, 229 pounds, Lauridsen is a gigantic blue liner that uses his size to his advantage by being a physical, stay-at-home defender. Bryzgalov leads Flyers to 3-1 win over Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers grabbed two points today with a 3-1 win over the Boston Bruins today at the Wells Fargo Center. The trio of Mike Knuble, Matt Read, and Ruslan Fedotenko found the back of the net today, as the only visitor to beat Ilya Bryzgalov in victory was Nathan Horton. Bryz had 33 saves to Tuukka Rask’s 19, as Rask allowed two goals on 21 shots.
