It’s no secret that after losing the 2004-2005 NHL season due to a lockout, the dynamic of assembling an NHL team changed dramatically. With the implementation of a salary cap, there were a myriad of new limitations and restrictions placed on teams and how they spend their money. Rich teams could no longer try to buy themselves a Stanley Cup, while poor teams felt like they could finally compete. But is there a formula for building a Stanley Cup winning team? The Philadelphia Flyers seem to heading in the right direction after they recorded wins in their last two games. After they lost both the game and a crucial player on Friday, the Orange and Black pulled off back-to-back wins in their last two contests. The Flyers start a four-game week tomorrow, as they finish the seven-day stretch with a pair of games that start a lengthy road trip. On Friday, the Washington Capitals handed Philly a 3-2 loss at the Verizon Center. The Philadelphia Flyers started the week with a pair of wins, but a pair of lackadaisical efforts led to two losses where they were outscored 7-2. The Orange and Black find themselves at the bottom of the division with a trio of meetings against Southeast Division opponents over the next seven days. The Trenton Titans’ losing streak reached seven games before they pulled off an overtime winner on Wednesday morning against the Reading Royals. The Philadelphia Flyers’ affiliate only grabbed one point over the 0-6-1 stretch, as their last two wins have come in overtime against the Royals at Sun National Bank Center. The Titans will be in New York tonight before they travel home to host a pair of games against the leaders of the North Division. The Trenton Titans’ two-game skid turned into a five-game losing streak this week, as the squad dropped all three games on their schedule with a record of 0-2-1. Adam Oates entered the league quietly and left the league just the same, but the former center was rewarded for his playing career recently when he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. After he joined the Detroit Red Wings during the 1985-1986 season as an undrafted free agent out of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Oates went on to finish 16th on the all-time points list with 1,420.
