College Hockey Roundup: Avs assistant David Quinn named BU head coach; NCAA hockey predictions and more

Well that didn’t take too long did it?  Less than 72 hours after Jack Parker’s final game guiding the Boston University men’s ice hockey program, the school found his replacement — and they decided to keep in the family. At a Tuesday morning press conference former Terrier defenseman and current Colorado Avalanche assistant coach, David Quinn was introduced as the man who will succeed Parker. Quinn, a native a Cranston, RI, was a first-round pick (13th overall) of the Minnesota North Stars back in 1984 out of Kent High School in Connecticut. Four intriguing NCAA free agents who fit the Flyers’ mold

The Flyers have had recent success fishing the NCAA talent pool for late-bloomers and overlooked players. Matt Read and Harry Zolnierczyk are two of the current Flyers that took the academic route, playing four seasons each of NCAA hockey. Read is a small forward from Bemidji State University who came out of school at 24 years old. The Calgary native was named the CHA Rookie of the Year in 2007-08 and the CHA Player of the Year in 2009-10. As a senior captain in 2010-11, Read was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team.
