Superstition is the Way

A dedicated Chowderhead, born Midwesterner with raised Seattle flair and surly Philadelphian are speeding down I-95 between Boston and Providence in a borrowed, burgundy Dodge in the mists of early April, making that highway run with such speed that the leaves on the trees would be whipped right off their branches — provided there were any, since Spring doesn’t arrive until late in Eastern New England, and provided we could be so easily distracted by something like weather with a matter life and death on the line. Stevie Wonder is a musical genius, and though he once sang “if you …

The Stars and Stripes Starting Six: Flyer targets from the USA U-18 team

Demko is still a junior in high school, but is so talented and “mature beyond his years” as Coach Don Granato puts it, that he is in an accelerated program to earn the required high school credits before heading to Chestnut Hill. College Hockey Roundup: Hockey City Classic Captivates Chicago; Quinnipiac’s 21-game Unbeaten Streak is Snapped

This past weekend was not kind to the nation’s best. The top four teams in the USCHO.com D-1 men’s poll all suffered losses, and among those a 21-game unbeaten streak was snapped. Quinnipiac, Minnesota, Miami, and Boston College are the hunted at the top of the NCAA’s food chain, but sometimes the hunters catch up to them. The No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the NCAA fell on the same ice this Sunday as a part of the four-team Hockey City Classic at Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. No. 3 Miami took on CCHA rival No. 11 Notre Dame …

College Hockey Roundup: BC wins 4th straight Beanpot; Quinnipiac #1 for the first time ever; Hockey City Classic preview

The Boston College class of 2013 etched themselves into the record books Monday night at TD Garden as the first Eagle team to sweep the Beanpot, winning their fourth straight title by defeating Northeastern, 6-3. Prior to Monday, no Boston College senior class could claim a perfect 8-0 Beanpot record — not even the Brian Gionta-led class that went to four straight Frozen Fours from 1998 to 2001. However, their arch rivals the Boston University Terriers have. From 1995 to 2000, three straight senior classes had a perfect Beanpot record. During that stretch BU won six straight titles and backed …
