Rough Second Period Leads To Buffalo Victory
The Flyers lost their third consecutive game on Saturday when the visiting Sabres won 5-3. Three goals in a span of three minutes and forty seconds in the second period turned a two-goal Flyers lead into a one-goal deficit. Jason Pominville put away the game-winner six minutes and thirty-seven seconds into the final period. The loss drops Philly to 40-18-6 on the season. Flyers Hold On For 4-2 Win In NY
Opening Hockey Day in America, the Flyers continued their seasonal domination of the Rangers beating them 4-2 for their fourth straight win over New York. Jeff Carter and Claude Giroux both had a goal and an assist today leading Philly to victory, despite the orange and black getting out shot 39-24. The win improves the Flyers’ record to 39-15-5. After a very uneventful opening twelve minutes, the Rangers were the first team to score. Timonen Shootout Goal Gives Flyers Win
Usually called upon for solid defense, Kimmo Timonen won the game tonight for the Flyers netting the winning goal in the shootout against Tampa Bay making the final score 4-3. A two point night from James van Riemsdyk along with goals from Scott Hartnell and Darroll Powe allowed the Flyers to push tonight’s game to extra time. The win was the Flyers’ first of the season against the Lightning, making their record 1-3-0 against the Southeast division foe. The Philadelphia Flyers finally get a win after a long layoff, beating the Carolina Hurricanes after four days off and how do they follow it up after another little layoff? Lightning Trample Flyers
Thanks to a poor start and rust from the All-Star break, the Flyers experienced their 3rd loss on the season to Tampa Bay by a score of 4-0. Teddy Purcell tallied his first career two-goal game scoring Tampa’s first two goals on the night. Poor positional play from the defense and unfortunate bounces resulted in Philadelphia’s early deficit. Both Martin St.Louis and Simon Gagne had two assists on the night while Steve Downie netted a goal late in the first period. Dwayne Roloson recorded the shutout for Tampa tonight. Flyers’ best defense still needs more offense
It’s mid-January. The Philadelphia Flyers are in first place in the Atlantic Division and tops in the Eastern Conference, and are challenging for the best overall record in the NHL. The Devils are struggling to rise above the flames of their own personal Hades. The Islanders are sinking. The Rangers are good but not good enough, gasping for air and cramping up in the 21st mile. We were too new and too disorganized to assemble a preview of the 2011 NHL season worth reading. However, we made sporadic predictions on our site and participated in Freeze the Puck’s Atlantic Division Preview. So, we’ll aggregate some of those predictions here and benchmark our results.
