Vanek and Flyers’ Penalty Kill Hand Philly Second Straight Loss

The Philadelphia Flyers suffered their second loss in 48 hours with a 5-2 defeat in Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. Thomas Vanek accrued five points on two goals and three assists in the Sabres’ first game of the 2013 season.  Tyler Myers registered the game-winning goal in the third period, and Ryan Miller stopped 27-of-29 shots. For the second straight start, you couldn’t blame Ilya Bryzgalov, as he denied 36 of Buffalo’s 40 shots on net. Pens Ruin Flyers’ Opener, Beat Philly 3-1

The Philadelphia Flyers had a strong final 40 minutes, but unfortunately the first 20 cost them, as they lost their first game of the 2013 season 3-1 to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. James Neal had what turned out to be the game-winner just 7:20 into the contest, while Marc-Andre Fleury kept 27 of the 28 shots the Flyers threw at him out of the net.
