Penn State edges Sacred Heart; Set to face a tough UMass-Lowell squad

Ricky DeRosa’s and Luke Juha’s first period goals proved to be the difference as Penn State narrowly escaped with a 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart last Friday. With the win Penn State improved to 3-3-1 on the season. Juha, who hails from Mississauga, Ontario, tallied his third power play goal of the season and extended his point streak to three games. DeRosa and Tommy Olczyk also extended their point streaks to three games last Friday. The Lions went 1-7 on the power play, while Sacred Heart went 1-8 with the man advantage. NCAA Frozen Four: Who will sit upon the Nation’s Throne?

For only the second time since 1993, the throne of college hockey will seat a new king. Yale, UMass-Lowell, St. Cloud State and Quinnipiac form the Frozen Four and each eye college hockey’s “iron chair.” None of these squads has ever won a national championship and besides Yale this marks their first Frozen Four appearances. Yale’s only berth in the final foursome came back in 1952 where they finished in third-place. Back in 1952 the NCAA ice hockey championships were relatively new with its origin dating back to 1948.
