What Thornton was about to do to Bryzgalov, Bryz later did to the media

Saturday Morning Musings*

Something, something, intro paragraph. Fluff, yay! Let’s start off by facing the cold, hard truth. There is something like a 1% chance (with a 1% margin of error) that the Flyers could make the playoffs this season. Pointless wins are meaningless. Planning for next year is significantly more important at this point. So, what does that mean? Well, for starters, it does not mean that your loyalty as a fan is not contingent upon whether or not you want the team to win the remaining games of the season. The rational choice is to do what it takes to make …

The FLYERS are in the midst of a team meeting. ILYA BRYZGALOV is loudly snoring in the middle of the room, dead asleep. PETER LAVIOLETTE is visibly annoyed.   LAVY This is our problem right here: guys like Bryz who don’t want to pay any frickin’ attention in team meetings!   Lavy is screaming in Bryzgalov’s face, to no effect.   LAVY Hello, Earth to Ilya! Wake up!   Bryzgalov continues snoring. He’s dead asleep.   LAVY It looks like it’s happened again, boys. You’ve gotta go in and get him. Claude and Scott you’re our crew for this. Take …

Five Questions: Fixing the Flyers

Flyers Faithful revisited a former recurring feature, Five Questions, to address some current hot and important topics, including the draft, prospects, and the future of the Flyers. Breaking down the Bullies: Still making mental mistakes…

With nine games left in the season, there is only one conclusion left to draw: this group of players just isn’t very smart. Fresh off a loss to the playoff-bound yet beatable New York Islanders, the Flyers can pretty much call it a year. Instead, they are calling it a lack of mental awareness for the 22nd night in 39 contests (an above average amount for those keeping score at home – you know, in the standings). Scott Hartnell said they needed to be smarter. Peter Laviolette said the difference is ‘making a different decision at a different time in …

Win streak ends in Winnipeg, Flyers lose 4-1 to Jets

The Philadelphia Flyers saw their four-game win streak snapped today in Winnipeg with a 4-1 loss to the Jets. Evander Kane and Bryan Little each had a goal and an assist, while Blake Wheeler registered two assists in a four-goal second period for the Jets. Ruslan Fedotenko was the lone Flyer to beat Ondrej Pavelec, as the goaltender made 30 saves for the win. Ilya Bryzgalov made 12 saves on 16 shots against before being pulled after the conclusion of the second period. The goaltender didn’t receive too much help in terms of his defenseman clearing out rebounds in front …
