Game 48 Preview: Nashville Predators @ Philadelphia Flyers

Nashville Predators (20-21-7) @ Philadelphia Flyers (24-19-4), 7:00pm, CSN-Philly/FS-TN After missing the last two games due to being a healthy scratch, Steve Downie is back in the lineup as the Philadelphia Flyers host the Nashville Predators tonight. Whether Crag Berube’s decision to bench the forward will help his value to the team or not will be seen tonight, as Downie is expected to be on the fourth line with Chris VandeVelde and Adam Hall. Downie had little impact in the Flyers’ 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, as he was called for two minor penalties and posted …

Flight Plan: Looking Upward and Onward

The Philadelphia Flyers won two of their three games last week. Their wins came against the New Jersey Devils in overtime and the Montreal Canadiens in regulation. Yesterday, the team lost a due to a sub-par defensive effort, an unusually poor outing from goaltender Steve Mason, and some inexperience on coach Craig Berube’s part. Every player will have an off day here and there, every team will get away from their system from time to time, and every coach will fail to get his guys to turn things around after a bad couple of minutes sometimes. Yesterday was a perfect …

Mason leads Flyers to 3-2 shootout decision over the Predators in Nashville

Steve Mason is usually one of the best players for the Philadelphia Flyers game in and game out, but Philly’s goaltender was extremely strong tonight in the Flyers’ 3-2 shootout win on the road against the Nashville Predators. Mason denied 34 of the Preds’ 36 shots in regulation and overtime before he made a pair of superb saves in the shootout to grab Philly the additional point. Vincent Lecavalier was the lone skater to convert in the shootout, while Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier beat Marek Mazanec in regulation. Mike Fisher and Colin Wilson had Nashville’s goals in the shootout …

Philadelphia Flyers (11-12-2) @ Nashville Predators (13-11-2), 8:00pm, CSN-Philly, FS-TN The Philadelphia Flyers look to open their six-game road trip with their second straight win tonight in Nashville against the Predators. The Orange and Black enter the game only winning one of their last three, but they’ve won four of their last six. The Preds enter the game winning two of their last three, but they were shut out by Ilya Bryzgalov in their most recent game, which was a 3-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. They enter tonight’s game without a goal in their last 77:58 of …

Flight Plan: Turning It Around

The Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the hottest teams in the entire NHL in November. Since their first game of the month, a 7-0 blowout loss to the Washington Capitals, they have managed to garner at least a point in the standings in every game except one, as they’ve gone 7-1-2. It’s a pretty impressive little run they’ve been on, but what’s also refreshing is that they are starting to score goals at a more consistent pace. They’ve scored more than two goals on six occasions now for the season, which is a feat they accomplished just once through …
