Flyers Score Three Goals in Second Period, Dominate Wild 5-1

The Philadelphia Flyers returned to home ice on Tuesday night and five different players recorded a goal in their 5-1 rout of the visiting Minnesota Wild. Braydon Coburn netted the game-winning goal in the middle of the second period, while Matt Read and Jaromir Jagr were the only players who had multi-point performances with two-assist games. Ilya Bryzgalov, newly christened as the Number One goaltender, came through and won his third straight home game with a 25-save effort, as the Flyers recorded their first multi-goal victory in 2012. Shortly after the game’s opening faceoff, Philly drew the game’s first power play 1:14 in when Matt …

The Agony and the Ecstasy

The Lulz feature was originally inspired by the lolcats site but features hockey pictures with funny, quirky, ironic or just plain mean captions. This feature should run weekly on Fridays; TGIFWL (Thank Goodness It’s Friday With Lulz).

Atlantic Watch: 12/28-1/3

The Flyers went 1-1-0 in their two games this past week – losing the much anticipated Winter Classic on Monday afternoon to the New York Rangers. Due to Ilya Bryzgalov’s recent struggles in net, Sergei Bobrovsky earned both starts this week stopping 54 of the 59 shots he faced. Philly, which has dropped five of their last seven games, looks to turn things around this week against the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators. The Orange and Black continued their dominance over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the CONSOL Energy Center with a 4-2 victory on Thursday night. Matt Read earned his third …

Minor League Update: 11/27-12/3

The Phantoms started off the week with a pair of wins before finishing with a one-goal loss. The loss was the Phantoms’ first loss since last Thursday and the game concluded violently. The Phantoms have one more road game before returning back to Adirondack for a pair of home games on Saturday and Sunday. After having three days off, the Phantoms grabbed a 4-3 win at home over the Syracuse Crunch (the Anaheim Ducks’ AHL affiliate) on Wednesday to extend their winning streak to three games. Scoring the game-winning goal with only 5:12 left in regulation, Jason Akeson had a two-point night …

Atlantic Watch: 11/23-11/29

The Flyers won back-to-back games to start the week before dropping a Winter Classic preview on Saturday as they earned four out of a possible six points. Ilya Bryzgalov only saw 20 minutes of action this week stopping six out of a possible nine shots, while Sergei Bobrovsky provided a great relief appearance on Wednesday along with starting both of the weekend games. With several injuries and transactions adding the usual drama, the Flyers look to beat two Western Conference opponents in the upcoming week. To start the week off, the Flyers overcame a 3-1 deficit to hand the New …

Giroux Nets Pair As Flyers Beat Price, Canadiens

Two goals from our star player, P.K. Subban being booed everytime he touched the puck, and the ole chant being echoed through the Wells Fargo Center as time expired in the third period, what more could one ask for out of a 3-1 victory over the visiting Montreal Canadiens on this Black Friday? Well, it could have been 7-1 if they had the services of Jaromir Jagr and Chris Pronger, but is anyone going to complain? Claude Giroux netted a pair of goals during the second period as Sergei Bobrovsky had 23 saves on 24 shots as the Flyers won on …

Atlantic Watch: 11/16-11/22

Matt Read provided an excellent game-winning goal for the Flyers on Thursday, but that was the only good news Philly received all week as they are currently enduring a two-game losing streak with several key players missing the lineup in the process. Chris Pronger, Braydon Coburn, and Jaromir Jagr are important players on the Flyers’ roster. Jagr plays an important role in Philly’s most productive offensive trio, while the defense must rely on AHL call-ups when both Pronger and Coburn are absent from the lineup. Negative results were witnessed when all these players were not available at the same time …

Atlantic Watch: 11/2-11/8

The Flyers may have absolutely clobbered the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night, and the Flyers may have only been a shootout goal or two away from going 3-0-0 this week, but these three games weren’t the best Flyers team we’ve seen all season. Before their Saturday night massacre against the worst team in the league, the Flyers may have played 125 minutes as well as participate in a shootout in their first two games, but they really only showed up for a total of about 20 minutes. Inability to play a full 60 minutes was a problem last year’s Flyers …

3 on 3 for the week of 11.06.11

Welcome to 3-on-3, where we take a look back at the best and worst Flyers of the last week, statistically speaking. The Flyers had a good week, going 2-0-1 and gaining 5 out of a 6 possible points with a tough road victory against the Sabres,  a disappointing shootout loss to the rival Devils, and a complete manhandling of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Here are this week’s 3 “hot” and 3 “duds:” “Hot” players: Sean Couturier — The 18-year-old from the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL continues his strong two way play in his rookie season. “Couts” as he is …

Flyers Shred Blue Jackets 9-2

What a doozy!  In Jeff Carter’s return to Philadelphia… Er,  anyway, even Carter couldn’t have helped his new team survive the Flyers’ 9-2 thrashing of Columbus last night. The game, which the home team controlled from the start, was a real crowd pleaser. It featured a little bit of everything and a whole lotta scoring.  The Flyers started off the first period fast, scoring two within the first 3 1/2 minutes, and worked up a staggering 5-0 advantage before it was all over.  Among these were a pretty power play goal by Jaromir Jagr, a great dexterous goal by Max Talbot and a goal from the blue …
