Flyers, Giroux talk contract extension

According to TSN.com, the Philadelphia Flyers have begun preliminary discussions with Claude Giroux in order to extend his contract. Details are slim, but we know that currently the Flyers are over the salary cap as of right now.  As well as the fact that the team has just acquired defenseman Mark Streit from the New York Islanders.  Streit will also need a new contract, further pushing the issue of the salary cap. In yet another stealth, early-morning move, the Philadelphia Flyers extended the contract of head coach Peter Laviolette. “We are thrilled to have Peter continue his work with our group as we push to compete for the Stanley Cup,” Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said.  “Peter has done a terrific job for us and is very deserving of this extension.” No terms of the deal were disclosed, but multiple reports stated that the pact is for two years, lasting through the 2014-15 campaign. Flyers, vanRiemsdyk agree to multi-year extension

The Flyers announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with New Jersey native and forward James vanRiemsdyk. Terms have not been announced, but vanRiemsdyk reported via his Twitter account that the pact is for six years. He would have been a restricted free agent at the end of this season, after making $875,000 per year on his initial three-year entry-level deal.
