Goals by Jeff Carter and Danny Briere led the Flyers to their third straight win. After forty scoreless minutes, both of the Flyers goals along with Tuomo Ruutu’s goal for the Hurricanes came in the final period of regulation. The win pushes the Flyers to 36-13-5 on the season. The game started out just like the Flyers had planned. With Brett Carson going to the box for high-sticking Mike Richards 1:16 into the game, the Flyers powerplay had a chance to score on the league’s 23rd ranked penalty kill. The opportunity went to waste as a lone Kimmo Timonen shot …
Powe and Meszaros Score, Flyers Win 3-1
Goals from unexpected sources and strong goaltending helped the Flyers beat the visiting Dallas Stars 3-1 on Saturday night, in the first of two meetings this season. Andrej Meszaros opened the scoring with a late first period goal and Darroll Powe netted a shorthanded goal early in the second period that ended up being the game winning tally. After a garbage goal by Brenden Morrow later in the period, Jeff Carter scored the lone goal of the third period to put the game away for Philly. The win is the Flyers’ second in a row and eighth in 10, and …
An in-depth look at Andreas Nodl, the trade deadline, and more with Geoff Detweiler
Broad Street Hockey has been very gracious to Flyers Faithful, linking to many of our stories since we joined the hockey blogging ranks this season. We greatly respect their opinions, as they are one of the top Flyer-centric hockey sites around. So, when we realized Andreas Nodl was a heated topic for Geoff Detweiler, it piqued our interest. We asked Geoff if he would care to share his thoughts on Nodl, the trade deadline, and more. He agreed to do so and provided some really great insights and perspective into these topics. Please read on as Geoff took the time …
Leino Helps Philly Edge Out Win Against Nashville
Hosting the Nashville Predators for their only meeting this season, the Philadelphia Flyers were on the right side of an explosive third period as they won 3-2 tonight. The third period saw a total of three goals in over a span of ten minutes. Ville Leino had his first career two-goal game scoring both of Philadelphia’s third period tallies. Jeff Carter recorded a game-high three points with a goal and two assists while Claude Giroux had a pair of helpers as well. Leino’s late game goal allowed the Flyers to avoid back-to-back losses after dropping a 4-0 road decision to Tampa Bay on …
Flyers Get Cup Revenge With 4-1 Win In Chicago
In the only match up between the two teams which met in the Stanley Cup Finals last year, the Philadelphia Flyers visited the Windy City and handed the home team a 4-1 loss. Jeff Carter tallied two goals and one assist on the evening while Claude Giroux assisted on all four goals. Nikolay Zherdev scored Philly’s game-winning goal and assisted on their first goal of the contest. Chicago’s only goal came courtesy of a Marian Hossa penalty shot in the third period. The Flyers’ penalty kill kept the Blackhawks’ top-ranked powerplay unit off the score sheet as they wouldn’t convert on either opportunity. The …
Flyers’ best defense still needs more offense
It’s mid-January. The Philadelphia Flyers are in first place in the Atlantic Division and tops in the Eastern Conference, and are challenging for the best overall record in the NHL. The Devils are struggling to rise above the flames of their own personal Hades. The Islanders are sinking. The Rangers are good but not good enough, gasping for air and cramping up in the 21st mile. The Penguins are still hanging about in the rear view, still furiously waddling and flapping but unable to take off. Doesn’t matter though. Things can’t be totally perfect. I know it’s really nitpicking at this …

Flyers Rally Late For 5-2 Win
The Flyers came to Atlanta looking to put the memory of Thursday’s bad third-period behind them. It took a little while longer than expected, but the Atlantic Division leaders came through with a 5-2 victory thanks to a three-goal burst in the final 20 minutes. As the period grew older, the time spent in Philly’s offensive zone grew larger. Strong forechecking and pressuring each Thrasher with the puck allowed the Flyers to stay in Atlanta’s defensive zone and recover several bad neutral zone passes. With just over seven minutes left in the game, the Flyers finally capitalized. Scott Hartnell worked …
Flyers Win With Big 3rd Period
After falling behind by two goals, the Flyers scored five straight to extend their winning streak to 4 games since January 2nd with a 5-2 decision over the Sabres. Sergei Bobrovsky would tie a career-best by stopping 38 of Buffalo’s 40 shots on net keeping the Sabres off the scoreboard for the last 2 periods. It was Bob’s 2nd win against Buffalo in as many tries. Danny Briere shook off an All-Star snub to score the tying goal for the Flyers in the 2nd period and add 2 more assists in the 3rd as the Flyers outscored Buffalo 4-0 in …
