The Adirondack Phantoms started their stretch of three games in three days on Friday night on home ice, but it was no comfort in a 4-3 loss to the Albany Devils in front of 4,606 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. In the first of four meetings within six games against their northern neighbors, Joe Whitney tallied the go-ahead and insurance goals for the Devils (15-13-7). Matt Anderson and Harri Pesonen also scored, while Keith Kinkaid stopped 27 shots. Trade deadline passes quietly for Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers were dormant as the 2011 NHL Trade Deadline passed as of 3 p.m. (et). Flyers’ GM Paul Holmgren awoke from his slumber to make just one minor deal, acquiring prospect forward Tom Sestito from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for prospects Michael Chaput and Greg Moore. Flyers down Devils with third-period surge

It doesn’t matter what the circumstances are for either club, because when the Flyers come to North Jersey, it always seems to be a death struggle. On Thursday night it was no different, as Scott Hartnell notched a pair of goals and Danny Briere tallied twice in the third period to give Philadelphia a 4-2 victory over New Jersey in the opener of a home-and-home series from Prudential Center. Ville Leino notched a career-best three assists with Matt Carle chipping in two helpers for the Flyers, who have taken three of four and finished their five-game road trip at 3-2-0. …

By now I think you get the idea that I’m the historical standard-bearer for the site as I’m required to write about childhood experiences with hockey, or I’m dashing off the occasional piece comparing the plight of current athletes in the city to old-school Flyers.
