The Trenton Titans took on the Gwinnett Gladiators on Wednesday night as they sought to move within three games of .500 on the season and get a measure of revenge for a 4-2 loss in December. From the outset, it was clear tonight would be a back-and-forth affair. Unfortunately for Trenton, they again came up a little short, falling 3-2 to the Gladiators. Future Flyers Report: Stolarz Unbeaten with Knights, Cousins Leads OHL in Scoring

Goaltender Anthony Stolarz had a record of 2-5-0 and a save percentage under .900 with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks before he joined the London Knights of the OHL in early January. Since his move, Stolarz has appeared in six games for the Knights and has yet to lose. The 45th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft is 4-0-0 in the OHL with a goals against average of 1.84 and a save percentage of .937. The Philadelphia Flyers started the week with a pair of wins, but a pair of lackadaisical efforts led to two losses where they were outscored 7-2. The Orange and Black find themselves at the bottom of the division with a trio of meetings against Southeast Division opponents over the next seven days. Tye McGinn made his NHL debut on Tuesday night, as his first four games with the Philadelphia Flyers were impressive. Not only did the forward knock around Kris Newbury in his second game, McGinn registered his first goal in the NHL in the first period of Philly’s 7-1 rout of the Florida Panthers on Saturday. On top of that, McGinn has six hits in his first four contests with the Flyers. Unfortunately for Eric Wellwood, McGinn’s success at the highest level helped cause him to be moved down to the Adirondack Phantoms. Heeter suspended for Saturday outburst

Cal Heeter will miss Sunday’s Trenton game against the Elmira Jackals, and almost certainly more than that after the ECHL handed down a suspension and undisclosed fine for his actions during Saturday’s game against the Wheeling Nailers. Heeter fired a puck over the glass and into the crowd following a Wheeling goal in the early stages of the third period, drawing a game misconduct. Scott Wedgewood was forced to finish the remainder of a 3-2 Nailers victory. The tandem of Matt Germain and Peter Lenes registered all three goals for the visiting Wheeling Nailers, as they handed the Trenton Titans a 3-2 loss last night at the Sun National Bank Center. Germain potted the first two for Wheeling, while Lenes scored the game-winner in the midst of a hectic third period. Peter Delmas posted the 42-save victory, as Scott Wedgewood ended up with the loss despite playing all of 10:50. With the game tied at one seven minutes into the third period, things got rather interesting in Trenton. It started with Germain’s second goal of the evening. …

Per TSN of Canada’s Bob McKenzie, and the great echo chamber that is Twitter, the Philadelphia Flyers will request unconditional waivers on goaltending prospect Niko Hovinen for the princely sum of $125 dollars. The 24-year-old Finn never lived up to expectations and mystified many within the organization for his perceived lack of adjustment to the North American game and a lack of work ethic. Hovinen was a bust at Phantoms training camp in September and was shuttled down one level. During the opening weekend of the NHL season, a pair of prospects joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ roster in the team’s first two games of the 2013 campaign. The tandem of Scott Laughton, who enjoyed his first two games in the NHL, and Eric Wellwood, who registered at least one game played for the Flyers in each of the last three seasons, went pointless in the Flyers’ losses on Saturday and Sunday, but they did provide some noticeable performances. The Trenton Titans’ losing streak reached seven games before they pulled off an overtime winner on Wednesday morning against the Reading Royals. The Philadelphia Flyers’ affiliate only grabbed one point over the 0-6-1 stretch, as their last two wins have come in overtime against the Royals at Sun National Bank Center. The Titans will be in New York tonight before they travel home to host a pair of games against the leaders of the North Division.
