The Philadelphia Flyers had a rough start to this condensed 48-game schedule as they dropped both ends of a back-to-back over the weekend. A loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins is never fun, but despite looking flat in the first period, the Flyers really only lost by one goal as the Penguins scored an empty netter late in the third period to seal the win. The Flyers will try to bounce back from a rough loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins by spoiling the Buffalo Sabres’ season opener at First Niagra Center at 12:30 today. Former Sabre, Danny Briere, is expected to be out of the lineup again. Will the Flyers have a strong first period today? Can the power play be productive? Without difficult assignments like shutting down Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, will the Flyers be more of an offensive threat? We will find out the answers to those questions and more shortly.

The Philadelphia Flyers had a strong final 40 minutes, but unfortunately the first 20 cost them, as they lost their first game of the 2013 season 3-1 to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.
