ECHL Game Recap: Trenton Titans vs. Gwinnett Gladiators

The Trenton Titans took on the Gwinnett Gladiators on Wednesday night as they sought to move within three games of .500 on the season and get a measure of revenge for a 4-2 loss in December. From the outset, it was clear tonight would be a back-and-forth affair. Unfortunately for Trenton, they again came up a little short, falling 3-2 to the Gladiators. The first period started out choppy, with the Titans (18-23-3-3) and Gladiators (29-18-2-1) exchanging icings and neither team finding a way to establish much sustained pressure. In what was probably the Titans’ best foray into the offensive …

Trenton Update: 12/7-12/13

Although the Trenton Titans lost all three of their games this weekend to extend their losing streak to four, they managed to pick up a pair of points to gain a little ground in the standings. The Titans have only won one of their last seven contents, as their lone victory came in a high-scoring shootout. With seven losses in their last nine games, Trenton hopes a four-game homestand this week starts to point them in a positive direction. The Titans dropped their first contest last weekend at the North Charleston Coliseum by a score of 3-2 in overtime on …

Trenton Update: 11/9-11/15

In a schedule quirk, the Trenton Titans’ last five games have all come against the Reading Royals. The Titans lost every single one of those contests and are currently on a six-game losing streak, as they have gained only one point in the process. Three of Trenton’s losses to the Royals came this past weekend, as the club was minutes away from ending their losing streak. After coming up short in both of the clubs’ meetings last week, the Titans dropped last Friday’s meeting in a 2-1 affair at the Sun National Bank Center. Bryan Haczyk leveled the game at one with his third …

Trenton Update: 10/19-10/25

The Trenton Titans suffered their first loss of the season last weekend, but they’re still ranked near the top of the ECHL standings early in the season. The Titans were able to start off the season 4-0-0 before they recorded their first loss in Cincinnati on Saturday night. Trenton hopes a pair of home games against the Toledo Walleye this weekend will allow them to gain ground in the division, conference, and league. On Friday night, the Titans walked into the Ford Center and left with a 4-3 victory over the Evansville IceMen, an affiliate for both the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets. Luke Pither’s …

Then and Now: Jamie Fritsch

Jamie Fritsch only played one game in the NHL. Unfortunately for Philadelphia Flyers’ fans, his big break could have waited a little bit longer. Similar to this season, the Flyers played the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals during the 2009 playoffs, as the Pens held the fourth seed in the East and Philly finished fifth. During the 2008-2009 season, however, Philly had a hold on the fourth seed in the East going down the stretch while the Pens had to hope for a shot at home-ice advantage. Going into their final game of the season, all the Flyers needed to do was register a point …

Chris Zarb

A Prospect’s Tale: Chris Zarb

When a hockey player is drafted by a pro team, it opens countless doors and presents endless possibilities. Sometimes, a player’s dreams come true, and he makes the big club and has a successful career. Other times, players remain in the minor leagues for the duration of their careers, never reaching the highest pinnacle of their dreams. Chris Zarb didn’t consider himself “on the map” until he went to play for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL. It was there that he developed immensely, under coach Bliss Littler and defensive coach Tom Rudrud. Leading up to the 2004 NHL Entry …

Minor League Update: 2/27-3/4

The Phantoms had another strong week, as they recorded a pair of wins to extend their winning streak to four games before they lost yesterday. Although the winning streak snapped, the Phantoms still have their winning streak on the road intact, a place they have struggled all season long. Adirondack will see if they can extend that winning streak to four games this week, as they hit the road after a pair of home contests. With the game tied at one in the third period Friday against the Providence Bruins (Boston Bruins’ AHL affiliate), Andrew Rowe gained the game-winner on a penalty …

Minor League Update: 2/20-2/26

The Phantoms lost their first game of the week, but won their last two to win back-to-back games for the first time since the middle of January. With their shootout win and one-goal victory, the Phantoms are looking for their first three-game winning streak since early December. Although they are 13th in the Eastern Conference, the Phantoms, who have two road games and one game in Adirondack over the next few days, are five points out of eighth place. To start the week, the Phantoms were shut out on the road by David Leggio and the Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres’ AHL affiliate) on Friday night by …

Minor League Update: 1/23-1/29

With a trio of losses this week, the Adirondack Phantoms extended their losing streak to five games. Over their five-game losing streak, the Phantoms have been out scored 20-7, as the team has suffered two four-goal losses. The Phantoms hope the AHL’s All-Star break will end their misery as of late, as they have a three-game home stand over the next several days. For their third straight loss, the Phantoms dropped a 5-1 decision at the Verizon Wireless Arena to the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings’ AHL affiliate) on Wednesday night. Jordan Nolan posted the game-winner 11:31 into the middle stanza …

Minor League Update: 1/15-1/22

The Adirondack Phantoms could only notch one win this week despite taking part in four contests, as they went 1-1-0 at home and 0-2-0 on the road. The one win and three losses this week moved the Phantoms to 4-5-0 for the month of January, while they are two points out of first place in the Northeast Division with a game in hand on the division leading Connecticut Whale (New York Rangers’ AHL affiliate). Adirondack hopes to gain possession of first place in the division following their upcoming three-game week, as they finish January by taking on the Albany Devils (New Jersey …
